Default J-Blade Running Lights

Has anyone changed the color of the J-Blade lights on the F-type? I have a 2014 V8-S with the black out package and I was thinking of changing the lights to red bulbs

In general front daylights should not have other color as white, If you change the color in Europe, they take the car out of traffic.
I have no idea if in US you can play with the colors, interesting question.

They’re daytime running lights here, doubt it would pass inspection.

Front light color and wattage is about the only thing left that isn't illegal. How would you change the color?

Lights on the front of the car can be white or yellow only. Lights on the rear can be yellow or red only (with the obvious exception of the reverse lights). This includes things like under lights.

Short version: Red means rear end of the car. You wouldn't want to make people confuse the front of your car with the rear.

Yeah, you would definitely get some tickets for having big red lights in the front.

I'm not too worried about passing inspection as DRLs aren't required and I can just turn them off. Has anyone changed the J lights to any color?

I believe you will find the answer is a huge no. Depending how cool the cop is when you pulls you over for red lights, he might only cite you for the illegal light. They could cite you for impersonating an officer. You're talking heavy fines and possible jail time.

Here is the US Code as posted by Kensun. The quick summary is you can't have a red light inside or on the car visible from the front and you can't have flashing police lights.

Some states have their own restrictions, my state laws only limit front facing lights to four and requires red or amber tailights.

547.305. RESTRICTIONS ON USE OF LIGHTS

  • (c) Except as expressly authorized by law, a person may not operate or move equipment or a vehicle, other than a police vehicle, with a lamp or device that displays a red light visible from directly in front of the center of the equipment or vehicle.
  • (c) A person may not operate a motor vehicle equipped with a red, white, or blue beacon, flashing, or alternating light unless the equipment is: 1) used as specifically authorized by this chapter; or 2) a running lamp, headlamp, taillamp, backup lamp, or turn signal lamp that is used as authorized by law.

I'm still curious how you would change the color? Are you thinking about a partial headlight wrap or modifying the headlight unit?

Yeah no one has really touched on that. I believe the light is a single bulb for a J shaped casing so if you change one bulb it gives the illusion of many but I'm not 100% sure

I found this video, with rainbow led's.
And the guy seems to live in UK. Ok, perhaps he has also no driver licence, so who worry for the light show.

You can hundo p change those lights. Just like marker lights that are supposedly required on ALL vehicles by DOT, a ton of vehicles don't have them and cops really don't give 2 *****. Plus, when your actual headlights are one, the DRLs are not. So it's not going to cause any confusion at night where it could be a problem due to low visibility and it sure ain't gonna cause an issue during the day

I wish the cars in the UK understood that - lots over here run their super-bright DRLs all the time. And what are "cornering lights" all about? Why do they come on during daylight - presumably drivers can't see corners when it's not dark?

They play more and more with this combined daylight, cornering lights. My wifes car, a T-Roc, has this lights all around the air inlets in front. So they are not always combined with the headlights. And I agree that they should adapt to the ambient light, as they are mostly very bright in clouded conditions.

Is a cornering light like a turn signal? You folks across the pond have some weird terms haha. Anyway, to the OP, I'm definitely interested to see how this turns out. It seems like a giant PITA to pull the headlight apart and I know each headlight is 3 grand, so be careful!

In general it's not defined by law here in my country (Lux) and mostly you can configurate it in the car light setup menu.

No, it doesn't wink, just looks like you're a loser using half your fog lights when there's no fog. Jaguar did it much better in my 2010 XKR - bulb embedded in the headlamp unit and it only came on if the headlights were on. Still not very useful, though.
