Default J light bar dimmed

Hi, I just noticed my J light bar around the head light on my 2020 R is not as bright as the right side. It almost looks like its out but is dimmed and out in the middle.

Anyone experience this before I take it to the dealer as I have extended warranty.

Thank you

Many threads on failing DRL (Daytime Running Lights) here, for example…
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f...probem-256355/

Search the forum for DRL.

I have a 2019 with the same problem Jaguar will not fix unless you still have their warranty many threads on this issue and talk of class action suit to be filed, even if you replace it it will still occur again seems there is a major defect in the manufacturing of the DRL

What an absolute royal pain. Is this problem only isolated to 2019 and under?

Isolated to gen 1 facelift models fitted LEDs headlamps.

Yep, seems to affect all 1st facelift cars with LED lights, so from MY18 up until the 2nd facelift in 2020. There are no different generations of the F-Type btw - all the same generation but with two facelifts.

This subject has been done to death on different forums and FB groups. It's just a matter of time until there will be a solution either in the form of a repair solution or aftermarket lights. One member on the UK forum recently got a brand new light, produced in 2025, and it had completely different part numbers than the previous lights so maybe Valeo have finally fixed the issue in a new revision of the lights.

From all that I've seen it appears to affect 2018 through 2020 vehicles.

Yeah, you’re right. Probably the wrong terminology to say generation. Fair enough.

Yes, this is a common issue with the 2018-2020 MY F-Types. I've got a 2018 SVR with only 8,000 miles on it with a faulty left side DRL. When I took it into my dealer, they suggested requesting "customer assistance" from JLR. I was somewhat dubious about that, but they came back with paying about half which was $1400.00 - that also included the labor. If you purchased your F-Type from a dealer, it's worth asking for "JLR Assistance". If you're covered by a JLR warranty, that should cover the entire replacement and labor.

** Update**

I took it into the dealer yesterday as I bought a 3 year extended warranty when the original ran out.

I was told at time of purchase that it covered everything bumper to bumper with a $250 deductible.

Today I got a call from the service advisor telling me the headlight was not covered and she felt really bad about it as she has always been friendly and supportive. Also mentioned I had their best extended warranty known as “prestige”.

My cost if not covered $6700 CDN plus tax.

Naturally I was not happy and explained while not her problem I asked her to escalate it. I explained this is not a wear part but a known defect that is well documented and this is absolutely unacceptable.

I let her know to tell her superiors that this will go 3 ways;

1- They fix it under warranty
2- If not give me back the cost of the extended warranty as the only thing that it covers is their commission.
3- If the above is not acceptable I will write a scathing letter to JLR Canada in full detail and naturally I will never buy another JLR product from this dealer…or altogether.

Stay tuned

Yeah, this is a shameful situation for Jaguar owners to be put in. What an ungodly cost that is, especially if it is potentially recurring.

A thought: FeralSVR’s post seems to suggest that it was 2800 installed in the US. That’s approx $3800 CND. Perhaps you could make a call to a Jaguar dealer in the US to confirm and consider driving over the border to a northern state and have it done there?

A lot better than 6700 CND.

I was in a similar fix when my dealer requested a JLR Customer Accommodation requesting relief. I ended up paying $1,400...

In case this could be helpful for ya…Not sure how much of that absurd 6700 CND price is labour, but if it could help ya in any way to potentially do the install yourself here is a DIY guide (looks dead easy):

I have removed the headlights on my MY 2015 F-Type twice now and the procedure is a little bit different to that shown in this video.
It's obviously down to HID vs LED headlights and maybe facelift vs pre-facelift as well.
On the HID / pre-facelift headlights there is no need to remove any wheel well / fender liner bolts to then access two headlight assembly mounting bolts, instead one of the three headlight assembly mounting bolts is behind a rectangular panel in the fender/arch liner, this panel is easy to see in the video. Just remove one (10 mm IRRC) bolt/screw to open that panel then undo the headlight mounting bolt behind it, and the other two headlight assembly mounting bolts are in plain view on top of the headlight assembly. Same size, again 10 mm IIRC, maybe 12 mm.
You also need to unplug the big round multi-socket headlight wiring plug (duh!) and last but not least you need to loosen (not remove) the six bolts across the front/top of the bumper cover.
Then gently pull the top of the bumper cover outwards a cm or so (away from the headlight assembly), this will give you just enough room to wiggle the headlight assembly out and away from the car.
