Lateral play on lugnuts on 4 wheels - is this normal?

I'm going to blame GM. I had the same problem many years ago. So many years ago, I can't remember which car. Probably 1990's S-10 Blazer or a Chevy Monza.

Jaguar (and many other manufacturers) have been using stainless steel capped lug nuts for as long as they’ve been using alloy wheels. That dates back to the mid 70’s. The caps are often loose and that is normal and not a flaw.
The nuts themselves are steel which will rust. The caps are stainless so they won’t rust. Aftermarket chrome plated nuts will look great but the chrome will eventually flake off and the exposed steel will rust. That takes a long time if you get quality chrome plated nuts but the life of the plating is shortened by the use of a impact wrenches.

Yes that's why solid Stainless steel lug nuts are the best recommendation.

Be careful, with solid stainless nuts. Stainless nut have a tendency to Gall. Some folks use anti-seize, but there is some disagreement of this practice. Chrome plated steel nuts won't rattle but will rust once the plating is damaged. Also the chrome looks yellow when compared to stainless.

For me, I'll stick with the stainless capped nuts and live with a little rattle to get the look and corrosion resistance. BTW only one of my nut covers have any movement to it; the rest don't rattle at all. Probably impact wrench related as others have stated. Maybe a new set of capped nuts would be rattle free and stay that way if a manual torque wrench is used?

Another option is titanium. I am not sure if anyone make them that will fit the F-Type though. As you can imagine they are not cheap.

do look ok on the wheels, or do they stick out too far?

ive never had a car with 2 piece junky lugs, I was wondering why some of mine wobbled. Thanks to this great post I’ll save myself a future headache. Only decision is chrome, or black-chrome to go with my black/polished storms?

I thought they would stick out too far and immediately tried one to see. They look fine. Many others have used these exact lug nuts with no complaints about the looks.

Are the washers on the Gorilla nuts chrome? It is hard to tell from the photos. My factory nuts are fine, but some of the attached washers are starting to get a little rust on them.
