Default Lock delay

Does waiting for all doors and trunk to close before you can lock the car bother anyone else? Many times I'm out of the car before my passenger and I can't lock the car till they get out and close the door or else I'll get the double beep and the car Wil unlock itself. I have to similarly wait till the trunk is completely closed till I lock up completely. With my BMW if the driver left and closed their door the car would wait for everyone to leave and auto lock. The jag doesn't seem to do that same thing? Does this irritate anyone else or is there a fix?

Why would anyone ever want to kick their beautiful F-Type?

Considering I usually am alone in the car, this isn't a bother to me. Perhaps if it was a 4 door and I had to wait for the kids in the back to pile on out...

I assume you could always start walking away from the unlocked car and hop you were still in range of the key fob to just press the lock button after your passenger was out and had the door closed.

You had me wondering. I thought maybe it was like the new lift gate in SUVs where you just move your foot under the rear bumper and it opens.

Who knows? Kick the BMW and the doors lock...

(Too bad I didn't quote the OP... Now you and I are the only ones who know what the heck I was babbling about!)

Yes, it bothers me too.

I haven't had a chance to miss the kick to unlock trunk feature that the BMW had and I don't believe the Ftype has. It was pretty useful on days I had my hands full with shopping.

Wow. More "first-world" problems. I hope you never have any issues more serious than this.

So, I've seen some of us with "first-world" problems, and we all hear about "third-world" problems...

Why do we never have any "second world" problems?

When one spends $110,000 on a car, one expects to not have to deal with even first world problems.

I have a different issue with the locks. On several occasions I have walked up to my unlocked car in the garage and when I reach for the door handle and pull on it the car suddenly goes into lock mode and my fingers nearly get crushed as the door handle locks! I am now very careful but since I do not know what causes it not sure what I need to do to avoid this. Anyone else have this happen?

On a separate note my A/C has quit working again after the dealer "fix". 91 degrees and no AC.

Because we don't complain about them (Silesian heritage)

Also because most of us don't own Skodas or Yugos.

I suspect I know what is causing this...
If the vehicle is locked, then you use the key fob to unlock, the vehicle will relock in approximately one to two minutes, IF you have not opened a door or the rear hatch in the interim. A safety feature that assumes an inadvertent unlocking.

Now if you are unlocking your car from some distance, and taking your sweet time about getting in the beast to take her for a spin, she may be biting back at you for lollygagging.

+1. You nailed it. That's exactly what is going on. I've learned not to unlock until I'm near the door and ready to get in.

Love the keyless entry - never used to take the key fob out of my pocket. Now I use it to raise/lower the top (with the Smart Top.) But I think it's a 30-second delay for it to re-lock itself. (I often trigger that when I'm washing the car.)

Bothered me a lot initially. So I started working around this by first getting out of the car - locking by pressing the door handles, then opening the trunk by pressing the trunk release button under the trunk. That way, I can just press the powered tailgate close button and walk away when I am done.
