Default Manual Transmission Question

Has anyone with a manual transmission tried a Spec Performance Clutch? Mine's got a first Gen clutch and thinking about this vs the latest OEM clutch: https://specclutch.com/applications/...016&type=13925

I have not read about anyone installing non-OEM clutch and the latest generation of clutches seems to be holding as long as both clutch and flywheel are correct parts.

From what I learned going through 1st, 2nd and 4th gen clutches is that too-aggressive clutch (like second gen clutch) has a chance to destroy fragile LSD. If you chose to go with performance clutch consider further customizing your drive train to include driveshaft flex disc.

I have a Spec Clutch and single mass flywheel sitting on a shelf waiting for a Gen 4 clutch to fail. I sent Spec the OEM units to help design their units. @JDD2017 has just installed the Spec clutch and flywheel. Perhaps he can give us a review.

I would definitely be interested in hearing that review.

Yes, would also like to read that review. the MY2017 I have now has the 4th gen clutch. I've put on about 3500 miles since install, don't do crazy things or track it, so hoping it lasts as long as my 98 Honda Civic's did (370,000mi) But then, who am I kidding. LOL and falling on the ground.

@evilftypedw
i would be interested in the progress of this swap.
Can you discuss what you are thinking?
1) what is the intended torque rating of the clutch system? (pressure plate holding force, and friction disk material)
2) what is the selected flywheel material or mass change? (lighter can give quicker RPM changes, but also risks poor idle and stalling)
3) how much is the drivability impacted? (a friction disk with impact springs takes the edge off of torque impulses)

My 2017 has the original clutch which did slip when I purchased my car used last fall (abused by previous owner?), but so far it hasn't acted up on me (I am gentle on clutches), so I am happy for now.
