Many thanks to all who have helped me!
For me this week marked an historic event, my new-to-me in 2020 MY2017 is paid off. Still has value remaining so I am pleased with that. I want to thank all the members who have encouraged me, posted replies, suggestions, help, advice, guidance and occasional kick in the butt when needed. As a result of your help, I got the coolant pipes/related/ replaced under warranty, encouraged my JLR tech to replace the SC oil (and not wait for 100000 miles), got my door lighting enabled, did my first ever top of the car oil change, and much more. The car now has about 41K, manual trans still doing well. Still working with JLR and my dealer for headlight replacement, so we'll see where that goes.
I apologize for not explaining my headlight issue. I don't think there's a DRL issue, I'd better check.... My issue is the microcracking. I have seen worse on cars, but I strongly believe it is a safety issue as the cracking diffuses the headlight beam to oncoming drivers. I have service document while the car was under warranty that there was an issue. Nothing was done, and I SHOULD have pushed it, but didn't. I brought it up again this past spring. My dealer attempted a "good will" replacement, but JLR blew it off. New service Manager and adviser and they are staying on it. These are the upgraded HLs that swivel and so I think they are about $6000 new/retail???? It seems the claim is working its way up the food chain. Keeping my fingers crossed.
FWIW, my wife bought a new Mercedes Benz in February, In helping her position it into the garage for the first time, I noticed what looked like a greasy fingerprint on the glass of the bulb inside the LF sealed headlight unit - not noticeable unless the light is on - that obviously would effect the light projected from the bulb. She immediately called the service rep at the dealership, who promised to have the replacement within a month. Seven months later, we finally got a call that the new unit was in. The rep explained that, apparently, current manufacturing processes are just in time, and it appears to be common practice that manufacturers don't keep much extra inventory on hand. So, that's what the delay was all about... finding an available LF headlight.
With respect to F-types, I would guess that most available spare parts inventory has been bought up by third-party retailers. As such, you might just do some internet cruising yourself see if you can find your needed headlight, perhaps faster than JLR or a Jaguar dealer.
Oh, as it turned out, after a three+ hour replacement/reprogramming effort, the new headlight for the Merc appears to have yet another smudge in a different location. Since we were at the dealership, the service rep and I checked two or three other cars with the same type of headlight, finding more than one with similar problems. My wife has been told to contact MB Customer Service directly about this, but I suspect that MB finds it easier (cheaper?) to just send out a replacement unit than to try to actually fix what is obviously a manufacturing/QC problem.

thank you for the interesting situation with "old" car parts. I think these headlights went in to several years of Fs, until the front end change. I think I'm still at the point of JLR saying "should we do this or not".. and then dealing with finding the headlights. Did a quick check online and Palm Beach jaguar has a left and right... about $4500 each. hoping, hoping, hoping...........

I have bought some F stuff from Ebayers, but am feeling cautious about these particular units as there is so much in them that has to play nice with the rest of the car... is there something in putting replacement parts in that the car has to recognize them? With all the controls in these Active LIghting units.. I would think the Main Brain would know that they are not what the factory put in. Putting these part numbers in brings up various other Jaguar dealers, and with better prices than Palm beach, Harper, at $3147 for example. I am hoping I get a decision soon and that the dealer can find them, if not, my search may help.
