Noise emission regulations have had their effect on the sound over time, yes.

have you taken it to the dealership to get service done? If so, maybe they applied some sort of update? If not, I don’t see how anything could have changed as there is not OTA updates.

That is the reason I never took my 2014 to the dealer to address a seatbelt recall. Not taking a chance of them sticking an update where it doesn't belong.

There was a software update in 2016 that dealers were putting on the cars that muted the sounds. If you search this forum it was extensively discussed during that time and many of us who have the 2014-2016 models told our dealers not to apply it or if they already had many went to a new tune through VAP or others to restore it. All of the cars post 2016 or so had it adjusted to the lower profile after 2016.

There were further software updates from 2018 that mute things further. I only had the first one which affected the engine speed that the valves opened on the switch in non-dynamic mode (changed from tickover to around 1500 rpm), and dynamic mode was set to off regardless of how long the car was off (used to "remember" for 6 hours). I think subsequent updates further muted the sound, but mine is as loud as it ever was, having avoided dealers since the warranty ran out.

Yep thats why I selected 14-15 models instead the MY16's+ sound way more muted as others have mentioned

I personally don’t hear the difference between my 2016 and the earlier models…

There is a difference from 14-15to 16. MY14-MY15 has the best exhaust pure unadulterated rawness not to mention the pops and bangs. The 16 is slightly muted then MY17-MY20 is muted. MY21+ most muted.

In fact a 2014 V6S sounds louder and produces more pops and bangs than a 2024 R

Well I driven the MY16+ and can tell you first hand the exhaust doesn't sound as loud and pops and bangs as the MY14-MY15 models.

I've got a '14 V8S and there is nothing more juvenile (and fun) than going under an overpass at high rpm then lifting the throttle to get the car to flatulate loudly.

Any Idea how to get pops back on my '14 V6S? they gradually disappeared except at cold start.

My 2017 V6s is loud as can be with the exhaust valves open. Absolutely illegally loud. I have a calibrated decibel meter, I suppose I could measure it and see.

Best sound? Project7. Second best? 2017 SVR.

You must have had a software update at the dealer. From my understanding you cannot revert back.

UNLESS you get a 'tune'.

First off, they did not mute the car. They just recalibrated the ECM to turn off the flow of gas sooner to protect the O2's and cat's, there was more done but this is what turned off the pops and bangs.
Also, every time you hear a pop, you could be damaging your engine, as the gas burning off in your exhaust is send pressure back towards the engine, momentarily stopping the flow of the exhaust and the more pops the worse the effect.
