I have a 2013 Merc SLK55 AMG and will trade it for an F-type any day. Much better performance from the Jag. My SLK55 AMG is equipped with a speed shift AMG transmission. It is anything but a "speed shift". My XKR with the ZF shifts so much better. Much better value in a Jag.

I love driving my SLS Roadster, but also love driving my wife's F Type v8S. In terms of looks, I get more people staring at the SLS, but that may be because it's so ugly (I just learned after reading this thread). The SLS and FType are very similar with big V8, droptop, CCB's, long hood, short rear, two seats etc. and close performance wise also. I prefer the 6.2L V8 of the SLS over the supercharged V8 5.0 in the Jag, but the Jag has a better transmission for normal driving around town.
I'd have to drive the new AMG GTS to give an opinion on it, but it seems like it will perform very well. I can't judge a car based on pics from a magazine and 0-60 or 1/4 mile times. Actual seat time behind the wheel is what matters. From the looks, the front of the AMG GTS looks like an SLS but shorter and a little cartoonish. The rear resembles a Porsche. I think the F Type is definitely a better value, and it looks better from the outside. The AMG GT has an amazing interior and will probably perform a little better but at a much higher cost. I would wait to see what the black series version looks like, probably a couple yrs after this is released. We're lucky that there are so many great options out there these days.

The second sports car developed independently by Mercedes-AMG boasts ideal credentials for this tough job in the premiere motorsport competition.
