Merry Christmas!! Questions about ordering a car..
for those of you that ordered your car from a dealership, how long did it take from start to finish? if you recall... I need to buy from the Birmingham dealer and they don't have what i want so i thought i'd order it..
what's your experience with ordering? tips? were you able to negotiate price at all? I do not want to pay full MSRP....thank you

Merry Christmas, RavenRed.
I can't answer your ordering question, since I purchased off the lot, but have you asked your dealer if they'd be willing to explore a car exchange with another dealer? If you can locate a car close to what you want somewhere else, they may be willing to do that, especially at the end of the year when they are trying to get inventory off their books. Such exchanges are common with other makes.
Start with an inventory search of all the dealers in the Southeast, and you may get lucky. Just a thought . . .

Thank you Foosh,
yes that crossed my mind! i have not asked him yet. This transaction will not take place before the end of the year though....The buyer for my lotus will complete the transaction in Feb and i have not canceled my order yet for the Z06 but i have pretty much decided that i will cancel it and go with the JAG...now the issue is do i go with the R or the S?... i am not a track person so i'm thinking i don't need all the HP for a twice a week driver.....dollar for dollar (my Z06 priced out at 97k) I can get a good Jag for the same money AND have the features like the heated steering wheel, auto trunk closing, AND CD player just to name a few, which the Z06 has none of those things...

I'm very patient on many things, but not when I've set my mind on making an automobile purchase.
Perhaps you should post your must haves right here:
1) Coupe or convertible
2) V6 or V8
3) Exterior color (one or more you'd be happy with)
4) Interior color (same as above)
5) Options
I'm sure there are many people who would keep an eye out for you.

Dealers generally like to order cars that are pre-sold so they don't have to carry the inventory costs. Hence they will generally discount more on ordered vehicles than in-stock ones if there is a balanced supply/demand situation. Right now, new 2014s can be had for $8-10 under MSRP and in-stock 2015s for $4-6k under MSRP. The best discounts I found for ordered 2016s is $2.5-5k. I'm guessing early summer there will be no discounting on in-stock 2016s (or maybe even some premium pricing) since most of the initial AWD and 6speed allocations will already be spoken for.

From build date to delivery the time seems to be around 2 months. So if you can find a dealer that already has an allocation ready to be built that you can still modify you are probably looking at roughly 3 months.
Deals are definitely out there. I ordered a 15 Coupe R for $5k off MSRP plus the JCNA discount. That was in August. Other dealers were willing to do something similar. Good luck!!
