Default My new R - Aston Martin inspired

Just wanted to reach out to everyone and say thank you for steering me in the right direction with the help of this Forum. I was going to get a 911 and I'm so glad I got the F type R instead. I have had the car about a week and I'm loving it ! She just got back from TAG Motorsports with some cosmetic mods that are inspired by the simplicity of the Aston Martin which is my favorite car, just a little out of my price range. The R was the right choice for me and I ordered Silver exterior with the Black suede pack and headliner on the interior with white contrast stitching. I also ordered the 20" Storm wheels with carbon ceramic brakes. The car has every option and the MSRP was $122 K.

Back to the Aston inspiration. I have always admired the simplicity of the Aston Martin interior and exterior color schemes and that's what I was going for with my R. Most Aston Martin's have very little color on them including the brakes and badges. I have attached a picture of my Aston inspiration car at the end.

I like the Jag OEM yellow on the carbon ceramic brakes but found it to be just too much for my eye. In addition, all the red badges was sporty but not the Aston subtle look I was going for. The way I see it, the R is already such a sexy shape, I wanted to focus on that alone rather than yellow and red accents everywhere. I'm sure others will disagree but I hope you like it. Professional photos are coming soon but until then some quick i phone images to share. Sorry the pics are not better but I was in a hurry and excited to post something up for the Forum.

I also wanted to thank Neema and the entire crew over at TAG Motorsports. They did a fantastic job on my car and color matched everything perfectly.

MODS LIST:

Change wheel center caps from red to black
Change Jaguar badge on front grill from red to black
Change R badge on the front grill from red/green to silver / charcoal gray
Debadge the rear of the car except for the leaper on the spoiler
Unplug the rear spoiler so it stays down ( cleaner look )
Tint the tail lights 6%
Paint the ceramic brakes silver to match the car ( no more yellow )
Paint the side vents silver to match the car ( now looks like hood vents )

Other than the above list, the car is perfect and I don't need to do anything else !

Really nice, this is one of the only modifications that I've seen that look really good. Less is better.

Welcome to the club! Congratulations on the car. Agree with you that the badging is overdone. I think you've made this car look more beautiful. I was thinking of debadging some day. Wondering if this concept would work on a white car? The wheels make this color look so much lighter in weight. Nice job and thanks for posting!

Looks great. They did a nice job with caliper lettering.

Are you not getting a fault light for unplugging the spoiler? This happened to me once and I got a message saying..."spoiler fault..speed restricted" something like that.

Extraordinary! Job well done. When I did modifications to my XKR's body, I also tried to keep the monotone, classic look without succumbing to doing a contrast rear diffuser as is so popular. I did, however, paint the hood vents black as many Astons have, just a little contrast. You've got a beautiful car.

Thanks for the comments guys. To answer your spoiler warning question WhiteTardis, I did get the warning message once when I floor it from a stop and took it up to 120. When I turned the car off, the warning fault cleared itself and has not come back in a week so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it keeps working. I also like the improved visibility out the rear glass because the spoiler stays down now.

Here is a few more pictures and I forgot to mention in my post yesterday I had my vinyl wrap guy cut out matte black vinyl to cover the white / yellow and red warning labels on the interior sun visors which are black suede in my car. It looks so much cleaner inside now.

I would like to have a simple toggle switch that would drop the spoiler when I want it down, which is 99% of the time. My plan is to speak with the local Jaguar master mechanic to see if he can help me figure it out ... not sure he would be allowed to do it though, at least not on Jaguar clock.

I would also be interested in a source to cover the craptastic, neon-yellow striped visor labels. Any link or description of the material used would be helpful (thickness, self-adhesive or glue-based, etc.). I'm guessing since you covered them that a removal solution is not available.

Yes removing the warning labels on the sun visors is not an option and illegal I'm told. Therefore, I had a vinyl car wrap vendor cover them with "3M WRAP FILM SERIES 1080". The color I used is #1080-S12 Satin Black. This product is made by 3M specifically for car wraps. It has adhesive on the back side.

Default Nice Job....

I just dropped my car off to have the last bit of work done.

It will include exactly what you did with your side vents. Thanks for posting as I wanted to know how it would look color matched and just as I thought, yours look great! Thats how they should look.

I replaced my center caps with the "R" center caps which are black and look great on R's.

I'm a bit up in the air about color matching your calipers. If I paid $15K for carbon, I think I would leave them yellow to let the world know! I bet the yellow contrasting off the silver wouldn't be bad at all. But I recently saw a Porsche Turbo in silver that had turquoise carbon calipers that looked breathtaking (believe it or not).

Overall very nice job.

Polaris will always tell you the truth. (My new sig)

How much did they charge to paint the calipers? And are you thinking about tinting the windows?

$850 to paint the brakes which I though was a deal. No tint on the windows for me, I want the classy Aston look. When I saw this car, I knew I had to paint the brakes and get rid of the yellow. I actually think my R is even more beautiful with the mods. It just focuses all of your attention on the stunning design and lines of the car.

Bond.... James Bond. Just look at this car!

Yes, for $250-$300 many shops will paint the calipers on the car, I didn't want it done this way. TAG had to bleed the brake fluid, clean and degrease the calipers. Remove the factory paint, sand, prime, custom match the silver to the car with multiple coats, then apply the black logos and shoot several coats of clear coat to protect them. Then reasemble everything with high performance brake fluid. Finally road test the car. It is quite a process that takes about 3 days from start to finish.

YES! it would be of no surprise that Polaris went the cheapest route he could find... Then he proudly boasts about how little he paid, proving to those of us who know better that cheaper is rarely the right way and certainly not the best way to get something accomplished.

I wonder if he even thought for a second how others might respond to his comment, and whether or not it might be perceived as offensive to some, make others feel bad for what they paid, or potentially reflect negatively on the type of work he finds acceptable, which it has...

Sometimes less is more and better to say nothing...

S4OC, Love what your done to your car by the way. Looks spectacular, and hard to go wrong using Aston Martin as a model.

Did you get the outfit too? Driving gloves and sunglasses make the look. The Aston doesn't hurt either

Just noticed the Aston has the side rocker trim and front side wing trims painted black. Although I have liked the look on white cars, I also like the one color look. I've debated this as the white gets visibly dirty quickly. I think the all silver look of your car is cleaner. I expect the silver hides dirt somewhat better than white?
