You could try spraying electrical contact cleaner in the switch module and work it around. Otherwise, my fix was to replace the switch module. Requires removal of the air bag. My dealer did the job for 3 hrs labor. I sourced the part myself. Way cheaper than the local dealer.

Is this a common failure?

Obviously not unique, but I've been around since I first got my MY14 and it's the first thread about it that I can recall.
(Of course, sometimes when I press the buttons on the left side of my brain they work, and other times, not.)

I had the buttons on the right side replaced under warranty a few years ago. All good since then.

It is, after all, a British car. I don’t know if Lucas still makes Jaguar electrical bits, but my MG is full of their parts. Lucas is not called the Prince of Darkness for nothing.

No, Lucas does not make parts for Jaguar. The main suppliers are German (such as Bosch or Japanese (such as NipponDenso). And the parts can and do fail (fuel injectors?)...

Just stating the obvious here, but make sure you are not in one of the menus accessible by the buttons on the left side of the wheel. Doing so makes all of these buttons correspond to the menu, not their normal functions (volume up and down). I thought my volume buttons weren't working but it turns out I was just in the menu on the instrument panel cluster screen. Be sure to exit out of that (push the left button until you are back to your central display (either Jaguar leaper or the audio...maybe there is one more setting that this can be set to?) and then the buttons will work again.
That said, this is just checking the obvious, so it may not be your issue.

Default Steering Wheel Controls

I own a 2015 F Type R. None of the left steering wheel buttons respond. (Among other issues I can't check the vehicle status such as oil level, etc..) I have removed the steering wheel and replaced the switch console, but the new switches don't work either. I live in Puerto Rico and unfortunately there are no Jaguar dealers on the island, so I can't break down and just pay for service. Does anyone have a suggestion what to try next?

The other thing to try is the clock spring. Not sure, as the right hand switches work.

Do you have a code reader? If the car has set any codes that might help you diagnose the problem.
