By golly, it's really there! Nice discovery.

Oh man, bummer! A friend just posted today about how mice chewed through the wiring on her Toyota minivan... To make it worse, she also has a Prius so I sent her that article. Thanks!

I just went out to the car and yep, that panel pulls off real easy (just pull out from the top to release two clips then lift it out).
But it looks like it would take a fair bit of work and more skillz than I have to make the resultant hole look neat and tidy.
Interesting but why not simply use the OEM parts made for the vert?

If that compartment is finished in the Convertible models, wouldn't those of us with the coupe not be able to simply order the part that is used in the convertible?

I looked at this shortly after I got my coupe and realized that storage was minimal. The convertible panel is a different size and shape.

Minimal storage is an understatement ;-) Personally I would rather have a better laid out and roomier center console and give up the CD/DVD.
The size of the "box" is not only small but having a USB stick in there and possibly a USB cales eats up the usability of what is left. I opted for some angled USB cables but it's still pretty useless

I haven't tried popping out the panel myself but judging from the pics perhaps cut, shape and paint black a piece of 1/4" plywood??? plexiglass??
Had the same thought. A nice small place for safe storage.

I m going to have a look and see what I can do with that space over the Christmas hols. Extra storage space never goes amiss

This is why I was looking at an eBay piece, but didn't like its condition. The challenge will be to turn it to useful storage that properly secures/constrains the contents during rapid deceleration. Loose items in the car are a big no-no, especially if they land in the driver's footwell and interfere with the controls.

I had initially looked at this place for storage after seeing the F-Type modified by the Sky cycling team. They had radios mounted there.

Thanks Unhingd and SinF... I know we have rats around here, and I also hear that dryer sheets also work...

However, sort of a good end to the story, and this is absolutely wild, and I don't know if I should be upset. It sounds like the start of a bad movie, where they switch patient folders and one guy thinks he's dying, so he acts insane.

They flipped me and another car. My car was just an O2 sensor. So yes, they've had my car since Wednesday. But I thought I would have to wait another 3-5 days for an insurance adjuster. No rats under the hood. So excited.

I'll tell you what... if I was the guy who was told his check engine light was due to an O2 sensor, and it was all set under warranty.... to find out it's a rat's nest in my engine? Then I would be pissed.

Now I just get my ride back, and that's good enough for me. Happy Holidays indeed. Super excited, although I guess I should be frustrated. LOL

I am so sorry, but I can't help but think of this sketch from SNL. Now that it's basically legal everywhere in the West, I don't feel too bad posting it:
Watch Put Your Weed in It From Saturday Night Live - NBC.com

Interesting. I wonder why that would be. Apparently JLR is consuming that area with wiring or such on the coupes. Too bad

Not at all. There's still a decent sized void behind the panel, but it's a different size and shape compared to the panel on the convertible that contains the storage compartment. Convertibles get a storage compartment, coupes get a padded blanking panel with empty space behind it.

I wonder why the different size & shape then. Sure would be nice to be able to make that compartment on the coupe the same as the vert. I'd rather have the option to put a doggie bag into the compartment rather than tossing it on the shelf above between the seats

I find that storage space useful on my convertible. Perfect place for a cellphone, mine fits neatly into the net at the back of lid. I also often throw wallet in there. This way it won't fly out no matter how I drive.

With MP4S I have seen 1.15G lateral without sliding (according to in-dash accelerometer, but I think it is overestimating), 1G+ is plenty to send anything thrown into cup holders flying.

that cubby hole has been deleted on the MY18 Convertibles, had it on my V8s but the SVR vert its gone (i'm assuming its all MY18 verts but could be SVR specific? )

That's perfect - hadn't seen that one. Actually I was going to say "a nice place for safe storage and contraband." But it's now legal here too.

It was an option for MY14. It locks, which is nice. Think there was just an opening with net there, if you didn't get the 'lockable stowage compartment.' Was part of the Premium Pack for me.

If you unlock your car and do not open something it relocks itself after about 30 seconds.

Phew, good to hear Uncle Fishbits!
And that cubby, just about big enough for a bag'o'weed. (Not that I do that.) (Not that there's anything wrong with that.)

(Not for the easily offended.)
