How often do you think a low mileage (under 35,000 miles) 2016-18 R in green or blue comes for sale in the USA?
How patient do I have to be?

 

I was talking Oz listings and prices not USA and no I have not been checking US prices
You blokes (and the Poms) are very lucky, even accounting for the crap Oz $ exchange rate F-Types in your country are less than half what they cost here.
Also your stock levels are at least 20 times higher than in Oz, maybe 50 times for all I know, as I type there are eight (8) count 'em eight F-Type Rs for sale in all of Oz and that's combined used and new. And in my backwater state of South Australia there is one used example and that is only the second or third used one to ever appear for sale in SA in the last eight years. If I buy one from interstate (like I did with all three Jags including my current F-Type) I would get hammered with a yuge amount of stamp duty (around $10,000 at a guess) which is nothing but an extremely cynical Government tax. Also there is almost no demand here for a used F-Type S so the only way I could sell my current car and trade up to an R would be to accept a stupid low price, some $20,000 or $30,000 less than it is worth. Then I would want to modify the R to bring up to near the spec of my S - decent tyres, pulley and tune, lower intake etc etc etc, my guess another $10,000. So adding up all these factors it makes zero sense for me to even try to sell my S to then buy an R!

 

A small correction/update to my earlier post where I listed the power outputs of the various F-Type engines and I said, quote "...while I'm not aware of any off the shelf upgrades/tunes for the four-potter."
Well it turns out our favourite tuner VAP has a tune for this engine taking it to 347 hp so a smidge more than a stock base model V6, see here:

It sounds way different on bottom of the world. Up here in US, the further you go back, the less the difference. Case in point, cars.com today lists only two F-Type convertibles 2015 or older with less than 20k miles. One is a V6-S , the other a V8-S. V8 is 1 year newer. Price difference, $1,003.00. Mostly V6-S and V8-S share most components. I would point out the rear diff is different. V8-S has electronic clutch controlled unit.
