+1 had them on my previous car, was very happy with them

On my 15 R coupe, I have the ‘Blades’ / ‘Style 5042 just like post #1, with 295/30 P-zero rears needing replacement. Fronts have plenty of tread so I want to leave them on there.

I want to go with Michelin on the rear, and have these options:

Pilot super sport 295/30: $337
Pilot sport 4s 295/30: $361
Pilot sport 4s 305/30: $436

1- Any reason for concern having the pirellis still on the front? I assume no problem since it's rear drive.

2- Is the extra 3% width in back that big of a deal?

The half inch wider tire does look just a little better, but paying 20% more for 3% more contact patch isn't cost effective. Paying a 10% premium for the PS4S over the PSS is justifiable as the wet traction is significantly better.

@15FTypeR
You read my mind.. .. I have almost the same idea. My PZ's are OK in front, not sure about rear. Does have 4.5mm in center groove..
I didn't look into the pricing yet. I'm Dutch and Vredestein is a Dutch company. Sofar I have been very happy with their tires for my other cars [ Land Rovers and shopping trolleys..].
I aways had Wintrac type for the Disocvery, lately switched to Qutrac 5 as I don't offroad that often anymore. These are a lot more quiet on the highway, take a few percent less fuel too
[ diesel is here € 1,36 per liter, $ 6,90 per US-gallon..].

But those I drive the whole year, in snow and rain. With the FT I never drive in snow or on ice, as I avoid contact with roadsalt.. So no need for 'all-season' ....
But the Ultra Vortice is a high-speed / high-performance tire type they make. But seems to have less good performance in the wet ; that's when safety matters most..

I went to see my tire-guy : told me the OEM's have "J" in a cricle on the sidewall.. ..and indeed they have ! The PZ custom made for Jaguar..

He also said that most OEM-series are of a better quality then standard, as the manufactures try to win the drivers as there customers.. .. sounds logical to me..

Also with Porsche : fitted with "P" OEM-tires driving perfect. Same made/type without "P" : hopeless to drive !!!

I don't know about better quality, but they're certainly different - I had to replace a tyre on a previous XKR due to pothole damage and I ordered a J PZ from a mobile tyre fitting company. When the guy turned up he'd bought an ordinary one and when I questioned him he said "they're all the same". I reluctantly accepted the tyre as I needed it done in a hurry, but the tread pattern was very different and it wore out in half the time of the J marked one on the other side.

So now the question now is; is there a Michelin SP4 with J marking..

I've used Michelin PS's on 4 corvettes, 2 AMG's, a Z4 MSport, and currently an F-Type R over the last fifteen years or so. Two of the cars were tracked with no problems. I wouldn't think of using anything else. The only car w/o PS's over that period was my F-Type S, and it had brand new P-Zeros when I bought it - I was too cheap to toss them. I only had the car for eleven months anyway before I bought the R.

I have read all of this. Without factoring in treadwear what do you think is the best tire to meet these qualifications:

I drive the car some days to work which is 30 miles each way highway so being somewhat quiet is important. I also live in Florida so handing in the rain is important because whose who live here know, a downpour can come at any time.

So a tire with good dry handling but can also do well in the rain along with being semi quiet as i have a soft top and its already noisy on highways.

@Unoplop
So you need a rain tire : noise not important as from the 'ambient noise' you can not make out tire noise..

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 -guess- , but I dunno if they have the sizes.. ..with 70MPH max you don't need high performance tires..

Test shows : Supersort , wet handling . But difference is small. look at price and sizes too..

Seriously?? about 5K miles? My "new to me" '16 came with a new set of PZeros... I was thinking I'd get at least 10-15K if I didn't go too gonzo with the new R....

I already have 4k miles on my Falkens with lots of life left in them. I switched to them from the OEM Pirellis at 7.5k miles and the PZeros had lots of life in them, too. I just wanted more grip for a track day.

I've never got more than 10k miles out of tyres on the previous Jaguars I've had (4.0 XK8, 4.2 XKR, 5.0 XKR). Too early to judge the F-Type yet, only 5,000 miles so far.

Anyone have experience with Toyo Proxes 4 Plus? They’re a high performance all season tire. They’re supposed to be quiet and have a 45k mileage warranty.

Granted, I'm in a S and not an R, but I switched out my PZeros around 12k miles which included several track days.

I haven't used the current generation of Proxies, but generally Toyo is middle of the road when it come to performance. They do everything 'ok', but nothing 'great'.

I just installed Continental's Extreme Contact Sport tire. Somehow, they seem to be a bit more comfortable than my Pilot Sport 4S set. The sidewalls seem to have a bit more "bounce" to them. But, smaller imperfections seems to be amplified a bit from a sound perspective. It could be that the tires are inflated at roughly 38 PSI and I need to drop this.

How is the road noise on the Falken FK510's, as compared with OEM PZeros and the PS4's?

To be honest, I haven't really paid attention. Neither one ever bothered me.

Oof the road noise is my biggest complaint about the car, and I'm itching to switch out the OEM tires in hope to address this.
