Question New Converter Needed After 28K Miles?

Hi all, had F-Type R in when Engine Light was on. Dealer said PCM Software update. They did that. Thank God no change to exhaust (louder if anything)

Week later...Engine Light on again!! Took it in. Dealer said it needs a New Catalytic Converter.... After only 28k miles?? Will take 2-3 weeks to get in from UK

Is this normal? Anyone else experience with it?

Do they replace entire exhaust system? Or is Converter separate

Thanks

Mine is done too at 28k miles. I got a 2014 v8s. I bought a velocity 200 cell cat and I’m trying to install it as we speak. It’s just the middle of the exhaust system.

Dealer told me mine is covered under warranty. Wouldn't installing a non OEM void the warranty? Thanks for your response and I hope the velocity 200 works well for you

Oh yes. I didn’t know you had warranty. I think my cats went bad due to my excessive triggering of the pops and bangs when you tap on the gas pedal as you decelerate from 5k rpm.

Throwing a P0420 code? Did they test O2 sensors to see if they are faulty? Sometimes the codes say converter when it is the O2 sensors or the exhaust manifold or exhaust system is leaking.

I do the same thing too haha! You'd think Jaguar would know most owners would and manufacture a more durable part....

Thanks for that info... I will ask them (knowing all the issues I've had at my dealer I doubt they bothered to check)

I vaguely recall that emissions components are federally mandated to be covered for something like a decade or 100K miles...has been a while since I looked at any of that stuff though, but they were, post-1970's, given broader coverage than a typical bumper-to-bumper manufacturers warranty.

Federal Clean Air Act - 8 years or 80,000 miles for a catalytic converter provided it is defective and not the result of damage or misuse. I've attached the act as a PDF.

My R went through the same thing. At 13K miles the psg Cat inefficiency CEL appeared and dealer performed the TSB software update, squelched it for only only a few hundred miles, then the passenger converter was replaced. 1K miles later was the driver side's turn, driver side Cat replaced and finally no issues for the last 3000 miles. I thought certainly the O2s were the culprit but only the converters were replaced. All under warranty. I'm hoping for at least another 10K more miles before this happens again in my case.

That's crazy. They should last at least 50k miles you'd think? I'm having a new one installed next month. My CEL is now off again despite nothing else being done....bizarre

Thanks again. I told dealer about this, they were adamant it's converter
