new owner questions
had the car a week and i have a few things i havent figured out. could anyone help with these?- How do i put the ignition into accessory? Sitting in the car i want to turn everything on but not start the engine.
- Is there any way to leave the mirrors out when the car is locked.
- Is there any info on what S actually does with the transmission? It seems to change the shift points and it also seems like the engine idles faster and it stays on paddle shifters until i force it back to automatic. Are there details published somewhere?
- I read about the car being able to connect to a wifi hotspot for downloads, etc. but i don’t see anyplace to do that. Maybe that is on newer cars?
- Put the windows up without starting the engine?
- How do i see the software version – holding valet doesn’t work
- What are the lights on the side mirrors. I know about the blind spot sensors but right next to those is a single round led.
- How do i get the spoiler into maintenance mode? With the engine on or off i push the button in the car and nothing happens.
help appreciated,
greg

Just press the "start" button without touching the brake pedal.

I think there is a way but it is complicated and I have forgotten how!

See your Owner Handbook.
Yes, in S and Dynamic modes at the same time it does not shift up unless you make it do so via either the joystick or the right paddle (but it does shift down automatically as you come to a stop).

Maybe but I think only on newer cars with InControl Touch Pro
- Put the windows up without starting the engine?
See my answer to you first question, just put it in Accessory mode to work the windows.
If you are talking about Global Close (using the fob from outside the car to raise both windows) that is disabled from the factory for the US or Canada (and Australia!).

I forget but the details are around here somewhere!

I'm not sure but they might be part of the reverse cross traffic detection system.

Again you need to put the car in Accessory mode without turning the engine on.

Tell us what year you have, that may affect the answers. I can add a little bit to what OzXFR posted above.

The manual indicates that the auto fold/unfold can ne disabled by the dealer but doesn't go into details about how they can manually be activated should you want to fold then in a tight parking space situation. I asked my dealer to perform that procedure when I took delivery of my 2021, he went back and conferred with the service department and then told me it couldn't be done. And I am skeptical of that answer.
My Mazda has a simple setting to disable the auto fold mirrors and if you want to manually fold them, there is a way to do that with the adjustment control. I wish Jaguar was set up the same way as I don't need the mirrors to close every time I lock the car and feel that the added wear and tear to the mechanism may rear it's ugly head about the time the warranty expires.

You need an InControl account and you need to select the wifi and data use settings in the menu. I hope you have better luck than me. I was never able to get the car to connect. My phone connects with the internet just fine. It will give you some advanced navigation features, but be aware that it if you activate it with AT&T for example, it is a subscription service that starts at about $15 per month. I just use WAZE from my phone with the Android auto function if I want more advanced navigation features like real time traffic alerts.

If you are talking about Global Close (using the fob from outside the car to raise both windows) that is disabled from the factory for the US or Canada (and Australia!).
OzXFR is correct, you can get into the settings and choose both Global Up and Global Down features, but in the US the Global Up doesn't work. You can also configure the car for how long after turning off the engine that power is retained for things like the media system, lights and windows if you want to close the windows after you shut the engine off with the door switches. Otherwise, with the fob if you press and hold the unlock button (after you have chosen the Global Down feature) the windows will lower. But forget about doing the opposite to raise them.

If you are referring to the small round amber lights that come on in the mirrors, I believe they are telling you that the blind spot monitoring is switched on and "searching" the area, but of course won't activate with the other icons until a vehicle is in the blind spot or you have a cross traffic warning situation. If you are just driving along and not around other vehicles, the amber dots go out.

Correct, but make sure that you hold the button down. It is not a "one touch" button function to raise or lower the spoiler when you are washing the car or want to raise it for other situations.
Hope that helps

When the small round orange LED is lit on the mirrors (while stopped or moving very slowly), it is to remind you that Blind Spot Detection is disabled because it only works while moving at speeds above ~5mph. The light will (should) go out as soon as you start moving above 5mph.

An phone App that I have found to be helpful is the Jaguar iGuide. It is basically the owners manual that you can download to your phone. I keep the hard copy manual stowed in the compartment under the floor of the luggage compartment so it's nice to have info handy on the phone.
It can be downloaded to your phone from the Google Play Store, just search under Jaguar and you will see it along with the Apps for InControl Remote which allows remote locking/unlocking, remote engine start and a few other features, and the InControl Apps which are needed to use your Smartphone Apps on the touchscreen. I'm running a Samsung Android but I'm sure there are Apple compatible Apps available as well.

The only downside to the iGuide is that it's 2019 onwards (last time I looked), so not that relevant for us dinosaurs with our 2018 or earlier cars ....

All of this is super helpful. Thanks. The only thing I haven’t resolved is how to get to the maintenance menu. I saw a video that you hold down the valet button for 20 seconds but that doesn’t work on my 2018.
