Default New place to store my keys

I should have been doing yard work today but decided to play inside and made this. The box came from Amazon and the hood ornament from eBay. I actually got the idea from a posting of a paperweight someone put up. Total cost was around $50.

Very nice. I also strongly recommend turning it into faraday cage, as signal amplification could be used to start your car without the key being in the immediate vicinity. If the key is shielded, this becomes impossible.

I wear foil on my head to prevent anyone from getting me started (...but you notice it's not very effective).

If you have it crinkled and stealthy do you find it deflects radar?

Come to think about it, I haven't gotten speeding ticket in years. I think you're onto something.

Technical description in this article is widely inaccurate, but it shows that this is widespread issue that is being reported on.

https://www.wired.com/2016/03/study-...ignition-hack/

You have a signal amplification device that can be used to start your car in the driveway while your keys are sitting on a kitchen counter. Then your car sails away in a container to somewhere exotic and you spend whole summer driving a rental car while waiting for a replacement Jag to arrive.

Unhingd, I am sure some warlord somewhere will appreciate your custom tune and upgraded pulley. He might even use this forum to ask you questions about it.

Wow, just read a few different articles about this and i'm pretty shocked how easy it looks. Something i'll be keeping in the back on my mind.

I'm not quite certain how my favorite warlord is going to start my engine remotely with the car in gear, nor why anyone is going to screw around with electronics when our neighborhood tow truck operators can hook up to the car and drive off in under 30 secs (60 if they don't have clear shot to the rear end). Be more concerned about the car with self actuating steering and braking. Fortunately, our cars are too antiquated to have any of that.

Life's too short to worry about material possessions. You pay through the nose for insurance to the insurance company. Leave the burden of the worry to them.

Why certainly... So, as the Liberty Mutual commercial makes light of, insurance can compensate you for three quarters of the car.

Someone will approach your car with a device that will fool the car into thinking the key is in proximity. They will open the door, get inside, and if at that point they don't freak out about third pedal, will be able to start and drive away the car. Once they shut off the car, they won't be able to restart it, but this is minor inconvenience to a car thief.

The thief needs to gain access to my car in the garage. if they're already in the house, it would probably be easy to locate a well-labeled Jaguar key box and steal the fob (faraday cage or not).
