Nothing like the F type of course, but still! I loved the attention I got in the F Type but the XJ is still very much set up for the driver, plus 4 way ac and trays in the back etc.

here is mine. I found a 2012, with every factory option, for about less than a third of MSRP and 30k miles. (Plus warranty!)
Gotcha. And I get the appeal. My folks have an older XJ8 and the thing is one of the most comfortable tanks I've ever driven. In terms of highway cruisers though, the Maserati Ghibli at like $45k plus factory extended warranty costs absolutely takes the cake for sub $50k land yacht.

This is me being curious, and hope it doesn't come off any other way, but "how"?? That's SO AMAZING THO. I got a hand me down Datsun 200 SX in 1992, then by 1995 I had saved up enough from work and grandmom's gifts, socking money away to get a Jeep Wrangler. I drove that 20 years, and around 2006 knew I wanted something cool or fun, and saved up as much as possible, then bought the 2016MY.

The idea of a 16 year old having this car is, frankly, badass. In your lot, you'll see chargers or challengers or some debadged pretend m2, etc.... it's going to be so much fun for you. But how you got there is amazing! I know it's none of my beeswax, but I am floored! Congrats!

To me, that sounds like a suicide pact. The only reason I made out of my teenage years is that the old Lada, despite all my attempts to contrary, wasn't that fast.

I'm 78, 79 in February, and on my second F-type. I bought an 2014 S convertible in July 2017 and my 2016 R convertible this past September. Before that I owned two MB SLK55 AMG's, a BMW Z4 M-Sport, two C6 Corvettes and two C5 Corvettes, all convertibles. The time span of these nine cars is twelve years, but most of that time I had two of them.

You have to grow old but you don't have to grow up!

Glad to see someone older than me! Turned 70 this year but have only owned sports cars. Traded '12 SLK55 for the F Type. Only reason I might change is problems with access as I get older. Our Maserati sedan is easier to get in and out of these days.

Not to be argumentative, but I've had both an XJ8 and a Ghibli, and the Ghibli did not hold a candle to the road comfort of the Jag. And neither could compare to the comfort of my '85 XJ6.

Oh yes, I completely agree. My parents have both as well actually so have plenty of seat time. That being said, I would compare the Ghibli's ride quality to a BMW 5 series as opposed to a Jag although the Ghibli has some really terrible rebound issues during large steep compression. The Jaguar XJ lineup definitely places more emphasis on comfort than sportiness which in my opinion, is what the Ghibli is shooting for.

The first thought that came to my mind when I read of the 16 year old having an F-Type was: What kind of job does a kid have to be able to afford one?

Okay... so this board is awesome. Sure the F-Type is amazing, but to be 16 and own one is next world, and TO RETIRE AT 60? I know we're all probably not doing too poorly in our respective walks of life, but that's profoundly rare where I live. Lucky to like what I do.... but wow. Happy retirement! You earned it, and the vehicle! This board is something else.

[I was trying to be positive and supportive] LOL

I would say autocross for the young lad could be some of the most informative and helpful lessons in understanding the tolerances and limits of the vehicle in a controlled setting.

But, I would say I am far more concerned about the off the lot chargers or challengers, corvettes, and mustangs, that come with an absolutely absurd & unnecessary amount of power.
At least the F-Type is a car that is nice enough you will probably worry about dings or wrecking it?

I retired at 49 years, 4 months. It's not what it's cracked up to be! LOL, yes it is.

Something tells me he doesn't have a lawn, it's more likely a barren yard covered with broken glass and surrounded with concertina wire.
