Default Options to swap to black wheels

My 2017 F-type R BRG vert comes with silver wheels from the dealer's lot.
Would like to switch/swap to black wheels.
Besides buying a new set of wheels from Tire Rack or Discount Tire, is there another/better option?

Thanks,

Find an OEM option that you like and buy them used on EBay or at Midwest Wheels & Tires. Lots of relatively new takeoffs are frequently available.

Powder coating is an option as well to get the look you want. Besides black, some like a graphite color to be just enough different from the tire color. Whatever you do, please don't buy wheels for your Jag off tire rack....

Also, check the classifieds on this forum. Someone had black tornados on recently if I recall or do a search as they may have posted in a thread (although you are not supposed to.)

Thanks for all the suggs above.
Will check on Ebay & other sites.
Can't believe that these orig Jaguar wheels are over $1000 each.
Local wheel shop wants $600 to powder coat all 4 wheels black.
I've placed a Wanted to Trade post on this forum...

Thanks,

Thanks,
That's a pretty good price if they're a reputable shop. If you like the wheel design, I think it's the most economical way to go.

My suggestion would be to Plasti-dip them temporarily.
So that you can safely return to original should you not like the results and the cost of trying would be negligible.

Just know that the powdercoat will not be as good as the finish you will be removing. Nor is it easy to repair. Some of the reasons highend manufactures stick to base coat-clear coat paint.

I was told my wheels were painted black (not powdercoated). I'm sure at some point I'll replace them (still sticking with black though), but they work for now and don't show the brake dust as badly. I asked once I got home so that I'd know what I could and couldn't use for cleaning them. They are super easy to clean too, btw - after washing the rest of the car, I have a separate mitt that I only use for the wheels and wash them with the same stuff I use on the car itself. Of course they came to me this way so I don't know much else.

Thanks for the suggs.
Made a few phone calls to a few reputable wheel shops. They wouldn't recommend Plasti-Dip the wheels, since it'll peel easily going through an automated washer. Quoted both painted & powder coat at $125 - $150 each...

I think Q&C was suggesting the plasti-dip as an interim step to see if you like it. I do not use automated washes as they are in effective and don't like the high pressure sprays.

Please stay away from the automated washers. They put nasty scratches and swirls on your car.

Stance Wheels are custom milled for offset and hole pattern, but still very affordable.
I have purchased two sets for my F-types and was very happy with them both.

I went with 1/2" wider wheels with 10mm less offset than stock. Then added 10mm wider tires to give me the same overall width as the stock wheels and tires with a 15mm spacer that everyone here seemed to recommend.

How much do your wheels weigh?

I choose the rotary forged and they were right around 24lbs if memory serves.
They offer fully forged in the $2,500 range that weigh less....

I would be skeptical of $600 for a quality powder coat finish, seems too low. I would also advise against powder coating as past experience was not good with chipping and flaking. The powder coat adds thickness that may interfere with center caps and lugs. Also the finish will not be glossy, maybe that's to your liking though. Painting will give you a durable gloss finish and a much better option that aftermarket wheels IMO. You should be able to find a specialist or check with your dealer for professional wheel refinishing right on their lot.

Powder coating done properly is the way to go. You will find the painted wheels will tend to chip. If you find a good wheel repair company (not one of the mobile companies) that is setup to powder coat you will be pleased. They will also dismount & remount your tires as well as balance them. There are also companies that specalize in powder coating, they may be cheaper but you will need to take the tires off. The price will vary but $600. is not a bad price.

Powdercoated black Gyrodynes a year ago. $450.00. Gloss w/ clearcoat. No issues. No chipping. No scratches. Easily cleaned with a cheap throw away Costco microfiber towel.
