Default Ouch!

I was backing down a friends driveway using my camera. When I got to the end of their driveway, I turned out on the road and his truck was parked in my blind spot. What was curious, my sensor wasn't beeping when I hit his truck. That aside, this is all on me and boy am I feeling crappy! This, by the way is my third F Type, I was planning on keeping it however, plans change.

Ouch, indeed. Were you going rather fast in reverse? Maybe the sensor didn't get a chance, especially with you turning as well?

Sorry to hear, Dave. I've found my sensors are a little unreliable, too. They beep at times when nothing is around and I've parker about 1 mm from a wall with no beeping.

Sorry to see that. I don't have complete trust in the sensors, and visibility to the rear is poor.

Did I interpret your comment correctly, that you were going to keep the car but not after this?

That sucks and sorry to hear. I was always the mindset once my car has been repainted whether a panel or the entire thing-I sell it. Well I'm now approaching my mid 50's and realize almost every car I have owned has had paint work to some degree. On my Jag that NEVER leaves the garage (joking but less than 4k/year) and yet washing it one day in the garage something fell on it and I needed paint work. Come to find out the dealer repainted a quarter as well when they took it in on trade from the original owner at 11k. I since have changed my thought process to a large degree.

There's a shop here in the Bay Area that does really good work. I can't tell which panels are factory finish and which were repaired, and I've got a good eye for mismatches. @Tahoe Dave If you want their information, hit me up in a PM.

You hate to see that. I try to back into parking spots when I can, almost clipping a car at the grocery store cured me of pulling in front first. What's the estimate on it? Just curious.

The insurance company has estimated it at around $2500 which contemplates straightening the damage. The body shop inspected the damage and said "no way" and is looking to find a new quarter panel. This will raise the estimate thousands and the insurance company is aware and okay. The other PITA is all body shops are booked out for months.

Had a not dissimilar meeting with my garage opening in '15. Went to Jag approved shop and they also insisted on replacing, as per Jag ! Back then it cost about $6k here in Vegas. Great job but they did have to get the claims person up to speed. Shop must have a specific aluminum area also.

This just shows your insurance company doesn't know it is a aluminium panel and almost impossible to repair a major dent because of metal memory

It’s a good thing most insurance companies don’t know it’s a aluminum. Otherwise our premiums would be a lot higher.

The F-Type is not so unusual - many cars including BMWs now have aluminum panels.
I have no doubt that your insurance company knows this.
I had a minor scrape within weeks of getting my brans new 2021.
A pick-up side swiped my rear quarter - did not see me low down.
Boy, was I pissed
Not much damage, mostly paint - still cost the other insurance $2,500.
That was about double the original insurance estimate.

Ford is now using Aluminum body panels on their car lines. It’s not just high end makes.
