I think driving this car soft or babying it is a big no no. High rpms help break up carbon, so if you baby it too much you're allowing carbon to form. That's just my opinion, maybe a seafoam every now and then. We don't seem to have a carbon valve problem, but this car does have an injector carbon issue.
Makes sense to me.
Also there are many many reports (and pics) in this forum (XF, XK and XJ sub-forums) and elsewhere of carbon build up on the backs of the intake valves and in the intake ports on the AJ133 engine, it definitely does have a "carbon valve problem". Maybe not as bad as some other DI engines and maybe not until many miles on the clock, but it's a known problem.
Well maybe not a seafoam lol. My car has 70k miles on it and my valves are not bad whatsoever. I was expecting it to be bad because it's a direct injection car. Now a car with a carbon valves issue is my S5. It cakes the valves up so fast. I do a carbon clean atleast once a year on that thing. So comparing it to that, this car doesn't have a carbon issue lol.

When I was in the gasoline blending business, I worked closely with BG to formulate some of our specialty fuels. This was over 25 years ago. Definitely not snake oil. I use a can of 44k on each of my fuel injected cars about once per year. I was actually able to clear a faulty injector code on my pickup a few years back with a can of 44k. Same injector still working fine. Very expensive stuff, but much better than dismantling the front end of the car and using a sky hook to yank out the injectors.

But there is a current Fleabay auction listing for 4 tins where it seems they will ship to Oz, so I put in a bid a few hours ago (at a price waaay below normal market price), see how I go. Don't you dare outbid me Lance!
The problem with BG44K here in Oz is that absolutely no-one stocks or sells it, and the last time I bought some from OS the transaction was cancelled because for some weird reason they were legally prevented from shipping it to Oz.

Unhingd - I thought you were a technically based sort of guy - CHE? In any case, do you have an opinion on Techron? I've used it for years and not had any issues. In the day I read it was one of the few with snake oil inside; coming from Chevron (who I interviewed with back in the day getting out of Ga. Tech) I figured it was good stuff.
Many years ago (probably around 10-12), the injector cleaning company WitchHunter had made a post on a car forum about various fuel/injector cleaners. They did say that some of them actually did pretty well (they did some before and after flow tests). BG44K was the one recommended the highest and they said it was as close as you were going to get without pulling the injectors for a true clean. They didn't provide details for every brand, nor did they test every brand, but they did say most of them did "something" positive.
Thanks - after reading their website ( https://www.witchhunter.com/methods1.php ) it appears they do consider Techron to be good. To quote: "We do advise the use of a good cleaner, about twice a year (like Chevron's Techron) to help keep them clean after servicing."
Since the last time I bought Techron I bought a case, I'll use it up then perhaps switch to BG44K

If that advice is aimed at me then thanks, but no go.
Amazon AU has a very small range of products and zero auto products, and Amazon US/worldwide does not ship BG44K to Oz.

I just do it at the same time as oil changes. That way it becomes part of the maintenance routine.

It seems no-one else wanted 4 tins of BG44K going cheap.
Of course with taxes, shipping and the crap Oz $ exchange rate it ended up costing me $160 AU, but even $40 AU a tin is a pretty good price for BG44K so I can't complain too much.
I won the auction with just one bid at the opening price ($50 US), no other bidders!

Latest shipping update: "Undeliverable - Item restricted at Global Shipping Center".
What is the problem with shipping this from the US to Oz?
Do they think it is some sort of explosive?
Seems to me to be yet another case of the Nanny State gone mad.
Oh-oh, not looking good!

It seems that any liquid that *might* be flammable is forbidden to either be exported from the US or imported to Oz (or maybe both).
If that is the case what about oil tankers??????
Yep, now confirmed by Fleabay, the transaction has been cancelled and the money is being transferred back into my account.

by slowboat to China (or in your case to Oz) should be no issue.
