Default P300 yearly service

Mine is a P300 2018 with 20.000 miles on it. No issues. The car idles a little low on cold days. Never was driven in cold weather until this year and the new all season tires.

The annual service is coming up. i do not trust dealers.

What services beyond an oil change are necessary.

Obviously the service manual has all sort of stuff for a 8 year old car with 60,000 miles on it.

Is the Throttle Body readily accessible on the 4 cyl? A dirty TB can cause low or varying idle issues.
Wipe the barrel and BOTH sides of the throttle butterfly valve with intake cleaner soaked onto a rag. (Direct spraying can damage sensors if sprayed directly.)

As for other stuff, was your car supplied with a maintenance schedule that noted both TIME and MILEAGE? Many of the filters (engine air and cabin) just need to be inspected...perhaps vacuumed out. Best to have new ones on hand 'just in case'.

Some fluids should eventually be replaced even if there isn't a specified interval. Thinking trans fluid and rear differential fluids.

Finally, treat your leather to keep it 'supple'. Apply whatever treatment you desire, but leave it on for a couple days to give it time to penetrate....

How about inspecting the rear differential vent? Needs to be clear.

I took my P300 to the local Jag dealer for it’s yearly service under warranty for the first 5 years because it was free. They changed the oil, etc. The third year they also flushed out the brake hydraulics - worth doing. Supposedly, they also did software updates.
After the 5th year service I asked them how much for the annual service next year and they said “about $1,300”. Thanks, JLR. I will go to a trusted local independent for what is basically an oil change.
The owner’s manual listed recommended time/mileage services is a good guide.
P.S. Always use a top-tier premium gasoline.

Have you ever considered doing it yourself? I can’t stress how easy it is to change oil on these cars with a few basic tools. No lift required. It’s a beautiful thing. Those tools essentially pay for themselves instantly, and then your ongoing costs are dirt cheap from there…

Once you’ve done it a couple times and get comfortable it takes no time at all…Under an hour including cleanup in my experience.

It is super easy to DIY with one thing to note, the P300 has an actual dip stick. DO NOT stick the flexible extraction hose down the tube. It WILL get stuck. Instead use the somewhat flexible HDPE extraction tube, I use the smallest diameter one. Make sure the oil is nice and hot.

On the P300 there is a head inspection plug on the back of the motor. It gets hot and the seal fails. Make sure you get the new upgraded one. Does require a lift and skilled contortions to swap out.

Yes, I am considering changing the oil myself starting this year. Good to know about the oil extraction tube diameter.
Also, the JLR dealer replaced the leaky “blanking plug” on the back of the engine during my 2024 warranty service. Good point.

Can actually do that rear timing cover blanking plug from the top once you know where it goes, that's actually how the workshop manual wants you to do it. I always did them from the bottom since it was easy to reach with the car in the air though. Same reason I rarely used the vac extract, doesn't take that long to drain the oil and I know it all came out.

Can no longer print maintenance sheets from Topix without selecting a vehicle by VIN, which is crazy. At this age but low mileage, I'd be more inclined to really look the car over and see what I wanted to address, than doing a bunch of things just because of time. Engine oil, diff fluid, spark plugs, air filters (engine and cabin), would be my start of a basic service at that age. As far as the idle, your mounts are probably collapsed. You may be feeling the idle more than you did before due to age, very common on the 4cyl cars. Also super easy to change, even on an AWD but if it's RWD it's very fast. Do the trans mount too if RWD, they also are soft and sag with time.
