Did your dealer advise against it?
The manufacturer specifies discarding the rear eye after delivery, so that it is not delivered to the customer. Read into that what you will but I'd infer that it's only suitable for use up to delivery to the dealer.

My experience with cars I've owned has been that the tie downs they use for shipping are pretty beefy. They have to be to keep the car in place in a rough sea. Have you been able to look at the socket and see that it looks weak or something like that? Looks like it would take some doing to get a look at it. Did your dealer advise against it? Thanks again for the feedback!

Maybe it can safely be used to tow (winch) the car onto a flatbed, maybe not, I'm just going by the JLR "rear tow eye advice".
Also the diameter and depth of the thread on the rear tow hook is a lot less than those on the front tow hook, and as Steve says (and I have partly confirmed) the tow eye is angled down a fair bit so it could be dodgy for towing/pulling straight on.
Last but not least I vaguely recall someone commenting years ago that the chassis bar/rail/whatever that the rear tow hook screws into (ie where the tow eye is) is not particularly thick or strong and that is the main reason why JLR say it is "not to be used to tow other vehicles".
I have never needed a tow and I avoid my local JLR dealership like the plague!

Yup, don't try to tow the car with the rear hook. See the link above. Thanks!

Sorry to resurrect this post but I was thinking of fitting an e-pace or P7 grille to my f-type. I wanted to ask if both the grilles, the e-pace one and the P7 one, fit on the original surrounding (net of the side holes that I could have filled).

Thanks
