madmax1911- if you want to get technical, if you ask a JLR parts Dept, they will tell you the P7 grille and surround part #'s are not for regular ftypes only P7s.
Relax man, I didn’t say you installed any incorrect parts, I am simply saying that with new information available anyone wanting to do this mod can now replace all three parts that were designed to work together and not have to either cut and modify their new grille or go without the ability to use the tow hook.
What you choose to do or not to do is your business, no worries.

All good. I guess thats whjy we modify our cars , we remove stock parts for non-stock or upgrade to aftermarket parts to customize the car to our liking whether it be for performance or asthetics.

Why would not install the correct parts and not have to cut up your new grille and surround if you don’t have to?
$$$, that’s why.

Hey Unhingd,

Do you perhaps have any measurements of where you welded in the replacement tow hook? I'm about to install my P7 grill and would like to just future proof the beam. I could just eyeball it when I get there but would love to see what you did with yours before I attempt it myself.

Not a step by step how to but does cover the majority of what needs to be done.
All the measurements for locating the tow hook receiver are in this post.
Best of luck, let us know how it turns out.

I did not relocate the tow hook mount but cut a 1/2” section off one of the honeycomb sides and ground a small crescent into the surround in order to use the mount in its present location. I also fabricated a black anodized rod to insert into the mount when the tow hook is not inserted to give it a finished appearance. Can’t actually be seen unless you get real close.

Now that option suits me much better. Any chance of some pics?

I just picked up the parts so will start planning the install in the next week after I get the SVR back from the KW suspension install

I’ll take some pics as soon as I’m back in the same zip code as the car.

My grille and surround should be here tomorrow from Britcar. Was a little miffed that I asked for a shipping estimate...Paid, and then it doubled! I know it was an estimate, but seriously? Off by 100% Was almost $200 to ship the grille and surround....But I wanted it and it was ready to ship. Waiting for my Sensor holders too...Somewhere in Europe...with DHL....Then I have to paint it! Enjoying the nice weather for now...Will tear it apart when it gets here and drive it until then...Lots of good info here...so thank you.

That’s Britcars MO - you also have to watch because their final shipping total/confirmation goes to junk mail which has delayed a couple orders. I don’t recall the details but I think they quoted me almost 75% more than the estimate and I called hem and negotiated it down. Basically same as you, I get that it’s an estimate but come on...

My grill is already painted, cleared and polished, just waiting for the real non-driving weather to arrive and then I will start a few winter projects. The f-type is like 3rd in-line and I’m thinking of relocating the tow hook mount, Britcar said the P7 bumper bar was not available.

just curious, how much did you pay for everything?

would it be cheaper to get the carbon fiber surround off eBay and buy the oem mesh?

Very likely cheaper on eBay, but not sure of the quality, or that it would give you the same look? I imagine you would need to do a fair amount of fabrication as well with non-OEM parts (not that I have any issues with that).

My current outlay(without the new bumper bar) is ~ $1500 USD. I am going to likely buy another badge and paint it and add LED eyes etc., like my current one, so the total will be slightly more I suppose, but not much, since I do it all myself.

Good luck.

DC, did you ask around at all to see if the P7 bumper bar is in stock or available? Britcar says not available and no eta

I did not actually. I will develop a different solution at some point I suppose. For now, if it breaks I will just pick it up and drag it! That is why I always lift weights and do CrossFit. Plus, keeps the weight down on my car

if $1500 includes shipping, that doesn’t seem to bad. I was thinking close to $2500-3000.

I had my surround wrapped. Perhaps a bit less expensive than to get it painted.

👌 Thanks. I have the material and can do it myself. Was just thinking if I get a good PPG Base/Clear and flex, it may hold up better on the front? My wife enjoys testing the paint on the Porsches/BMWs by hitting things, so I have a good relationship with a great Collision Center.

To Prep/Paint/Clear Gloss Black, they are only charging me $150.00 so I will let them do it. Wrapping would also be a good option, but that shape takes some work to stretch it properly and not get pull-back.

Will post more when it is done.

Take care,
DC

Good call, I started with a wrap and took it off before I finished trimming. I went with automotive paint and 2k clear (my original choice)- I worked in various areas of automotive including body work and have a full complement of sprayers but I opted for a good quality rattle can paint and clear. Of course, color sanded and wet sanded the clear and polished to a high shine. Looks amazing and cost less than $50 and I like knowing I have the right stuff for touch up and polishing plus, the sanding in between 6 coats of color and 5 coats of clear left is smooth as glass and a good match to the factory black pack.

Anyone else on here ordered the Sensor Holders from Meister_Kajo? If so, I am curious how long it took to get them? I have all of my other parts (even the OEM parts from the UK), but still waiting on these. They are in the DHL system, but the last activity shows 10/21, so just seeing if others have ordered and what the wait is like? I am checking with him as well, but no response yet...

Thanks!

Things are taking a lot longer coming through customs during Covid. You need to be patient.
