Default Paint finish

I've never really been happy with the finish on my ebony black F-type, even from delivery. Lots of fine lines. I've had it detailed once and it looks fine for a while, but then they come back. I've never had it through a car wash - only wash it myself using the two bucket method to avoid grit being transferred around the car.

Any suggestions on how to remove the fine lines - what should I look for in a commercial detailer's methodology? Or is there something I can do myself?

Any advice on keep the black shiny and new looking would be appreciated.

I've had good results with hand polishing with a product called "Scratch Out". It's a VERY fine abrasive polish. Follow up with the wax/polish of your choice.

Another option if you are talking about the hood, front bumper or front corner panels is to have it covered with clear film like Xpel. You will not be able to see the swirls or fine lines. You could actually have it applied to pretty much any part of the car actually.

The time to do it is when the car is new. Lots wait a year or two and then wish they would have.

Suggest reading some of the detailing forums. There are several options. There are some synthetic coatings that improve the protection ( opti-coat and others). A clay bar and polish is a start. The XF forum has a member that had his car professionally done and it looks great from the photos. Investing more in a more permanent solution lessens maintenance and upkeep.

See "Full correctional and optic oat 2.0" thread in XF forum" . I am considering doing this on my car. I need to research products a bit more. Tired of the swirls. Most cars come that way, even when new if they were not properly preped, washed and detailed. It doesn't take much to put swirls and fine lines in a clear coat.

My car came new with swirls and it drove me nuts. Heres a thread on the XK forum on paint correction and OptiCoat. I had it done by a professional detailer but some did it themselves with great results.

I'm getting mine treated with C-Quartz Finest when it arrives. The installer will do a full paint correction before CQuartz if required beforehand. He requested that the Dealership NOT wash/wax the car at delivery. Others I got quotes from for Opticoat requested the same thing. Said improper dealer prep is the biggest cause of swirls. Not sure what my Jag dealer does for standard proceedure, but the BMW dealership 2 doors down the street owned by the same company has an auto-carwash WITH BRUSHES next to the service bays to clean customers cars.

Realize that cars are shipped across the pond. I doubt dealers rotary buff your car. More likely than not they are not hand washing, clay baring and buffing your car. They have glaze products that cover the swirls and fine scratches till your wash or rain uncovers the real condition of the finish.
