When I shared the pictures of my F-Type with the middle exit to quad exhaust conversion freshly done, some forum members noticed that one of the tips is misaligned, and (perhaps more worryingly) the exhaust can itself seems to sit low.
Would appreciate if anybody who's got one installed could take a few pictures for me so I have a better understanding of how they typically fit.
There's only about a fist worth of room between it and the road, and more room between it and the heat shield than I'd expect, but I don't have any frame of reference.
The tip I'm less concerned about. I am a little concerned about the can being the lowest part of the car and worry about whacking it on a speed bump or something.
I reached out to VAP and they've been helpful so far. They said the tip was indeed misaligned but that the fitment was normal and is designed as such to accommodate a broader range of cars with apparently different subframes.
They did say they'd realign the tip and modify the fitment to fit closer if I'd like them to, which I absolutely appreciate.
I guess before I do that, though, I'd like to see how the fitment on my car compares to others so I can make an informed decision.
Sending it back will mean a good chunk of time without my car unless I track down a stock v8 muffler to use in the meantime, so I want to make sure I'm not just nitpicking before I decide what to do.
Thanks for your help!
(Again, no heat toward VAP, they've been responsive and helpful. I really just want to see more installed pics so I have something to compare to.)
Hi, I have the VAP v8 exhaust. The muffler should be sitting flat against the bottom of the car, not at an angle like yours' is. Sorry I cant get a pic from more under the car, I have the Mustang at work today and this is the best picture from my phone.
I would get the car up on a hoist and take some pics then send them back to VAP. I'd have thought it was an installation issue rather than a manufacturing one

Thank you for the picture. If it's not to much trouble, would you mind taking one from under the car so I can see it in relation to the subframe/heatshield?
VAP has seen my photos and says it's fit normally, but I sort of expected it to be flatter like you said.
edit: just saw your edit re: having the mustang at work today, no worries. If you think to snap a pic next time you're near the car I'd appreciate it though.

Yeah, look mine is plenty different than that - the muffler unit itself if pretty much horizontal, the lowest point is 7.08 inches (180mm) and the pipe is 220mm, or about 8.6 inches. It is all just a touch lower than the black bars you can just see in your picture.
In yours, it looks as though the silver material (heat shield?) comes down toward the middle of the car, but mine is flatter, allowing the unit to sit up flat in the recess. Remember though mine is a coupe, maybe there is some differences there for the vert but I doubt it.
But even allowing for the lowering of a bit over an inch, mine is nearly 2 inches higher than yours, and while I always say that size doesnt matter, I think an extra 2 inches is gonna be pretty noticeable even among friends.
As mentioned to the OP by email, comparing valved to non-valved, as well as to prior iterations of the exhaust doesn't really mean anything. Our original versions of the exhaust actually had cutouts to clear the subframe at the rear, and the muffler in a different position. Our valved systems have the muffler in a different position to the non-valved systems anyway. And the later valved systems don't even use the same shape muffler as the earlier ones. Our jigs don't allow for the muffler position to be completed incorrectly.
Dru, as we discussed that tip definitely is misaligned, and we are happy to either repair it ourselves or with prior approval and conversation between VAP and a local repairer, to cover the cost of realigning it.

Thanks Stuart,
I posted this before we'd talked yesterday. Was definitely not intended to be a 'call out' thread or anything. The piece looks great and sounds even better. I just didn't expect to lose ground clearance. I'd never seen pics of another car w/ the non-valved muffler on it, so I was hoping to find one here to have some context.
Going to speak w/ a local shop today, hopefully. I'll reach out when I know more on that front.
