Yeah the base model has enough sound for me, and it doesn't make that cracking sound except in rare situations.

Both are leases. Including insurance and the additional down payment, the V8 S is $210 more per month for 36 months.

So for $210 more I lose the Vision package, but get the loud exhaust and S badge. Worth it? I'm leaning no but want to see if I'm missing anything.
Let me get this straight... to you the only difference between a 380hp V6 and a 495hp V8 is a "louder" exhaust???? If that's true... get the 6 for sure.

yes. Unfortunately I know that I'll pretty much just be driving it to work and back and a little on the weekends, so no need to pretend like I'll be taking it to the Nürburgring or anything. I need practical options like the vision pack, the automatically folding side mirrors, cool looking wheels . . .

You have some of the best driving canyons right in your backyard. Don't think that LA is nothing but 20mph bumper to bumper traffic and that you can't take advantage of a powerful car. Come join us for a *spirited* group drive sometime. Eurotopian

I would, but even in the "low powered" V6 base model there's a good chance I'd kill myself if I really tried to enjoy the canyons in an F Type. I drove them once in my old car, enjoying the view and careful not to go off a cliff.

Highway 2 from the 138 all the way to the 210?

Are there any cops hanging out around there?

If you are just going to drive to work and back, don;t bother with an F-Type. Why not buy a Prius or a Tesla. Save yourself some money etc. The F-Type is a car to be driven and enjoyed. You will not be deserving of it.

Actually the 2014 F-Type leases are super cheap now. It's really the only reason I got one. It was only a few hundred more a month than a loaded Prius.

Hiway 2 (Angeles Crest Hiway) on the western end starts in the La Canada/Flintridge area then goes east to Wrightwood and a brief stint on the 138 to the 15 south then the 210 west. Don't know if you want to try it both ways in one day though.
Don't know which end you're going to start, but it's several hours of driving "fun".
Wrightwood has a restaurant that serves Buffalo burgers (real Buffalo meat).
Don't know about cops, but oncoming traffic going slightly over the line keeps you alert.
Enjoy..

You made the right choice IMO. I understand exactly what you mean about your driving "area". I too have the base, however with the active exhaust. It DOES make a difference. As I roll down the hills the cracking and popping are VERY loud and real. Yes, heads turn all the time LOL

Well I just went up and down sunset blvd. through beverly hills this morning a few times. Scary. It's not that the car can't handle the curves. It's just that the curves pop up unexpectedly and if you take your eye off the road for one second you'll find yourself in one at 80mph.

Really dangerous stuff. Glad I got out of it without a speeding ticket.

Well, I just exchanged the V6 for a full V8S. Wow is it loud, even with the active exhaust turned off.

Sounds like an old 1960s muscle car.

I miss the vision pack and its automatically retracting side mirrors but I like the color better on this.

Yup, I've got base with active exhaust too, and there's a massive difference in volume when the active exhaust is engaged. I almost didn't buy that option, but in the end it was the best option I chose. Luckily I watched this link of base with active exhaust before I bought mine.

Totally agree, the base with active exhaust will definitely turn heads.
