Power Steering Fluid Flush?

Power Steering Fluid Flush?
My car is in for service today. Got a call from the SA who recommended doing a power steering fluid change (car is 4 years old / 23k miles).
He has looked after the car since new and I trust him to only do work that is necessary - however just checking, how often is it recommended to do a power steering fluid change?
Getting engine air filters done too as they are originals - not a cheap job!

My dealer neglected to change my air filters at 4 years, but the board here agreed that filter replacement should be more mileage-based than time-based. Yeah, expensive as I think the nose has to come off to access the filters.
Power steering fluid isn't mentioned in the 2014 maintenance schedule. Did you do the brake fluid last year (i.e. year 3)?

He didn't do brake fluid last year as he said still looked good (color) however he is doing it this year
Total list for this year (year 4, 23k miles):
- Oil service
- Brake fluid change
- Power steering fluid change
- Engine air filters
- Alignment - put new MPS4 on last year and had an alignment, its wearing the inside edges again though. My last tires were destroyed with inside edge wear

I can't see any harm in changing power steering fluid, however I can't see any reason to change it at 4 years old / 24000 miles.
On checking Jaguar service schedules from one year / 16000 miles through to seven years / 112000 miles I can see each service mention check & top up power steering fluid but none that recommend drain / flush / refill.

To change the air filters you just need to remove the under tray/front lip/front side fins, not the whole nose. Takes about 30min to change them on an F Type R 2016. At least thats how long it took me the first time. I could do it in 15min with an electric impact drill. There loads of screws and bolts.

Besides removing the front under-tray you need to loosen off a large circular clamp which holds the airbox to the intake tubing and pull the tubing off the airbox (only an inch or two) before you can open up the airbox enough to get the old filter out and the new filter in.
I took one of the air filters out a couple of months ago as a "recce" for when I replace them myself, and to check the condition.
At 3 years and 40,000 km the air filter was amazingly clean and still looked near new, so I'm thinking I could probably extend the scheduled change at four years old out to six years. IMHO renewing air filter elements should be based purely on mileage and condition (and driving conditions, eg dusty) and not time.

With the air filter change I wonder if it’s a case of having to perform the procedure “by the book” according to the Jaguar mandated process?
In the old days when Ferrari used cam belts instead of timing chains they required an engine out service to change them. Independent garages perfected an engine in change however dealers still had to carry out the service as per Ferrari factory mandates.
My SA said it’s $800 to change the filters (parts plus labor) but would bill at $600. Hopefully he has done me a favor rather than take me for a ride 😀

At $600 let alone $800 it's a rip off.
As I and Led have explained it's a fairly simple job that doesn't take all that long and a dealership should be able to do it in under 30 minutes.
My copy of the Workshop Manual says nothing about removing the front clip, instead it shows exactly as I and Led explained - remove the front under-tray and loosen off the airbox clamp, that's it.
The OEM air filters aren't all that expensive either, plenty on Fleabay and elsewhere.
Even if you are still in warranty I would DIY this job and save heaps, it's quite easy as long as you have a pair of trolley jacks and a pair of axle stands.

Unless there was a power steering LEAK, I wouldn't think that PS fluid would be warranted. I replace it on my other cars at ~100K miles, just by pumping the old stuff out of the reservoir with a baster or sprayer. I repeat this several times (driving in between) until the PS fluid seems refreshed.
What is the capacity of the hydraulic power steering system? (<--- I don't want @Unhingd to tell me it is zero for the newer cars with electric assist, LOL)
