Default Question about purchase and CARFAX

Been looking at buying a V6 F Type and this one caught my eye. 2018 with about 30k miles and has the active exhaust. But the CARFAX had that part about engine/power train computer/module replaced which got me a bit worried. Am I just over thinking this and this is fine?

You are probably overthinking it. ECU issues are rare on this car unless someone improperly tuned it and bricked the unit. You should check with a dealer to make certain that the car has not been flagged for violating the engine warranty. You should also have a pre-purchase inspection done in any event.

We always warn newbies never to buy any Jaguar without reviewing the maintenance history, and not the Carfax maintenance history, but the complete history. One thing I would do nowadays with any modern sports car tho is to take it to the authorized dealer, ask them to plug it in to their diagnostic computer, check for manufacturer specific codes (they don't all light up an MIL on the dash) and specifically ask them to look for any evidence that the ECU has been previously reprogrammed as it will apparently leave a code. There've been anecdotes posted on here about warranty claims being denied due to the presence of or previous evidence of a "tune" that might have allowed the engine to exceed the warrantable design parameters. Some stories ended with the owner prevailing, but I wouldn't want to risk going through that headache. A diagnostic fee at your nearest Jaguar dealer would be worth it and they'll also look in their Jaguar computer system to examine the service history and tell you exactly what that Carfax report is in reference to. Though I miss the days when you just wrote down your fluid changes and repairs in a logbook and put it in the glove box. Good luck. Hope its the one.

I do that....our other exotic has 32 years of entries. None of them will show up on Carfax, though.

I ran an AutoCheck (similar to CarFax) on our F before purchase. Only the dealer-performed services (and state inspection records) appeared. The previous owner (a friend) had a folder with all his services, luckily.

If there is going to be a repair that I would be least concerned about, it would be an ECU replacement.
