Default Quiet tire for F-Type S

My V6S has Pirelli P Zero tires. The tire noise is really, really excessive (and the tires are new OEM, the wheels are 20 inch)...before I completely lose my hearing I think I'd like to find a much quieter alternative. This topic may have been covered before but I have not been able to find the answer.
My driving is generally (!) in accord with posted speed limits so having a UHP tire is not the main concern - the concern is noise reduction without unduly sacrificing the handling.
The Michelin Pilot Sport 4S has been suggested; I am not familiar with this model but I have generally liked Michelins on my Jags. I have also had Hankook Evo V12 tires on my XK and found them smooth, quiet and responsive but I don't think they are available in the required sizes (255-35/20 and 295-30/20).
Can I have an informed opinion about a quieter tire for my beautiful coupe? Thanks for any help.
Oh...Happy holidays, Merry Christmas.

As bad as the P Zeros were in the handling dept. I didn’t find them noisy, there’s no difference to the Michelin.

To to be fair though I can barely hear anything above the exhaust, the F Type isn’t a noise insulating luxury cruiser.

If you don't care about performance, go with what you know. You're the only person i've ever heard complain about tire noise, so all of the suggestions here likely aren't something you should listen to. Most people are concerned about improving the terrible grip levels on the Perellis, not the noise.

Thanks gentlemen for these responses. I am fully aware that the F-Type is a sports car compared to the XK which is a luxury touring car, and thus noise levels are (intentionally) higher on the F-Type - but unless accelerating, what I mostly hear is tire noise from those Pirellis PZeros...and tire noise is not desirable, while engine and exhaust noise is desirable (I know that it is tire noise because it varies according to the surface of the road). pirellis, in my experience are noisy, and when half worn become octagonal in shape (!), hard riding, and again in my experience, often suffer from belt separation. My unfavourite brand. I have had excellent experience with Michelins, Bridgestones, Hankook and, yes, Kumho tires on Jaguars of various models.
So has no one replaced the Pirellis with a quieter tire?

I find the MPS4S to be about the same noise as the P-Zero, if anything slightly noisier, especially on some of the extremely coarse chip bitumen we have here in SA.
I've tried a few brands on my Jags over the years and the quietest tyre was probably the Continental ContiSportContact 5 I had on the XFR.
Apparently the later SportContact 6 is even better, but you might have some trouble getting the right sizes for your car.

They certainly aren't intentionally noisy... that's never desirable for any tire. And I really don't think anyone has ever claimed these tires to be excessively noisy besides you. So as I said before, we're probably not going to offer you much advice. It sounds like you're familiar with plenty of tires that are acceptable to you. Just choose one of them.

My experience is that the Michelin Pilot Sport 4s is significantly quieter than the P zero's. When I got my car I thought the same thing, for a premium brand my F type sounded like the rear tires were inside the passenger compartment, surprising amount of tire noise. Made the switch and found freeway ride to be much quieter and smoother with Michelin's - don't hear every bump or joint in the pavement anymore. One qualifier, I am comparing new Michelin's to 50% used P Zero's, and my roads are pretty decent. YMMV.

Two things:

1. Tyres are - by some way - not the loudest things in this car;

2. If it’s too loud, you’re too old.

Having driven f-types with Contis, MPSS and Pirellis, the later are not unduly loud. They are not exactly the highest grip option, but that’s a separate issue.

HTH...

I have the Toyo Proxes 4 Plus. They’re really smooth plus they’re about $100 less than the average tire. I’d buy them again.

I get a lot of road (tire) noise on certain stretches of freeway. The P-Zero and the P4S replacements are pretty much the same. It's a noisy car.

I would not say it's a noisy car in the "sportscar segment". I would say it's a very comfortable sportscar with low internal noise levels.

On our last roadtrip in Germany together with several other sportscars, were we travelled long trips on the autobahn (8 hours + daily) averaging some 120+ mph, the F-type was probably the most comfortable car of them all - also regarding internal noise levels.

Everything is relative, and there are lots of cars that are less noisy than the F-type - but not many in this segment of cars.

If the noise is so "bad", consider taking off the inner fender liners, buy a can of spray glue and line them with http://a.co/3zOh8zU

Identifying THE quietest tires for "this" particular car... might be tough to do. While sites like tire rack will do reviews of different tire brands, the characteristics WILL be different with that EXACT brand/model of tire in one size/dimension(s) vs. alternate size(s)/dimensions so it is unlikely that anyone on any of these forums will be able to tell you of one that would be significantly quieter.

Point #1 - Worn tires are KNOWN to be MUCH noisier than new tires so the Original Poster's (OP's) issue may not actually be with the brand of tires themselves so much as it could simply be due to wear.

Point #2 - Continentals appear to be THE quietest on most of the other Jags (XEs, XF, F-Pace) so you may want to look for one of those in the proper dimensions.

Point #3 - A taller/wider sidewall WILL ride quieter than a short/narrower sidewall so if noise reduction is THAT important to you, you would obviously want to change from 20-inch wheels to some 19-inch wheels so that you can buy the quieter tire. Naturally, you will be surrendering some performance and a bit of styling/looks for the quieter ride but if that is your requirement then... make that change. There are probably a lot of owners here that would swap wheels/tires with you for minimal or no cost to you.

Thanks to all for these useful and thoughtful comments. The general opinion seems to be that my expectations are inappropriate (my word), and I agree that this may be the case because I am coming from a history of XJ cars and an XK (x150). Further, there is no agreement that any one brand will be usefully quieter than these Pirelli PZero tires (which are new, not worn, so that is not the issue).
My assessment is that I should accept that the noise level from tires on this car will be higher because of the size (enormously wide and low profile 20 inch tires), and simply get on with enjoying the prodigious power, handling and jaw-dropping beauty of the F-Type. Thanks again to all, and a peaceful new year to all of us (and "us" means everybody).

My P Zero's are now harder and noisier at 15k. In my previous expierience P Zeros are noisier than the Michelin and Continental I replaced them with. The all season P Zeros on our '17 Ghibli ride good but are still noise

The road surfaces in central Texas are for the most part is very rough. When I moved from Houston many years ago my sport bike would average 3~4k miles before needing replacement, moved to the Austin area and driving in the hillcounjtry I averaged @ 1,500 miles before the need to replace.
This translates to noise also. In my convertible the road noise is so prevalent that at speeds above 85 mph a conversation is best left to 'later on'. Having said that the continentals have been quite a bit less noisy than the previous Dunlap Sps. Going from worn out Michelins to Sumotos I can't hear a difference.
