Default Quiet/smooth S type?

Is there any way to smooth and quiet the ride in an S type? I'm guessing upgrading the suspension? anyone done this before?

Can you be more specific- what exactly troubles you? The S-type has pretty comfortable ride. But if you feel that it is a little bit noisy you can try and replace the tires. Some tyre types and brands have higher noise ratio.

Need car details - see below.

May be an old, worn suspension that hasn't been maintained/repaired?

Tyres make a huge difference and smaller rims, too.

Good luck!
Btw lower control arms are $825 a piece if u search you can find the oem on a site fir $250-400 each, big savings

The S-Type has lots of sound deadening materials in it. It's the quietest car I've ever owned.

If yours is noisy, as others said, it might be your suspension parts making noises, or your tires are the culprit. I replaced the Michelin Pilots mine came with for a less expensive brand. Now, interior noise is noticeably louder on certain road surfaces (e.g. concrete with embedded stones). I should have stuck with Pilots which were extremely quiet on virtually all surfaces.

Also, check your exhaust system. It might be in need of repair.

Jumpin jag,
Do u live in an area that gets winter snow and ice?
If so are the m.pilots winter tyres, do they hold up againt hydroplane?
I ask because I have firestone..., good tires from what Im told, theyre supposed to be all year but ibget a little slippage.
I have a little 3 year old to protect in the back I wanna get good tyres for winter.
Thanks 4 any input.
Btw I researched tyres but its not the same as getting a real persons feedback

S-types have one of the smoothest and quietest rides of any car in it's class. Must be something wrong with yours.

I would recommend replacing the tires as well. Remember though, that the S-Type is tuned as a sports sedan. The S-Type I used to have was a really good handling car with lightening quick steering. Some of the uni-directional tires will be a bit noisy so you may want to do some comparison shopping.

I'm only 45 minutes east of Philly; I'm in/out of the city all the time. As bad as last winter was, PA & NJ road crews do a remarkable job of keeping the roads clear in bad weather IMHO, so I had no problems in the snow with the new Pirelli Cinturato tires mounted on my '03 S-Type. The Michelin Pilots I replaced were also great in the snow, and were significantly quieter than the Pirellis, but were too expensive for my budget, so I settled for the Pirellis. Both are fine all-season tires that were highly recommended by Consumer Reports and users. The Continental Extreme Contact tires on my '01 S-Type also work well in snow and bad weather.

If you're really concerned about traction and safety in the snow then your best bet probably is to invest in a set of snow tires - mount them before the first snow; remove them in the Spring. I think someone on the S-type forum was selling a set of snow tires mounted on rims. You might search to see if they're still available and fit your car. Good luck. Maybe see you in Philly. Steve

Mine is with Continental tires and I am quite pleased. The ride is quiet and smooth. Also you may experience a somewhat less comfortable ride if you have larger than stock alloy wheels.
