S-Type 4.0 engine knock
It has been a while since I have been around, so long in fact I couldn't remember my login and had to sign up again.
Any ways, I have a 2001 Jaguar S-Type 4.0 sport package that I have got an engine knock. I'm not in a position to repair this car and was wondering if there is any sage advise for what to do with it. Scrap is only going to be worth +/- $500. My problem is that there is so much good left in this car this seems a waste. I'm thinking craigs list. It seems that someone who loves Jags should reap the benefits of my problem other than the scrap yard. It still has the bigger rims and tires with 50% tread with full size factory spare, good tranny, good body and most of the interior. well you get the point so I'll stop going on and on. Please let me know what you think.

Dang, Another one bites the dust....
1. Depending on mileage and condition, you might get up to $2000 for the car as is.
2. If you have the time and tools, tearing it apart and parting it out will yield you the highest return, but you need the time and space to go through this process.
3. If you still love the car, you could put a good used running engine in it, or get a basic engine rebuild. Could cost between $3K and $7K depending on what you have done. If you spend more than a couple thousand to repair it, you will have spent more than the car is worth, so you would have to keep it long enough to recover you investment. (or really be in love with your car)
I would guess that most forum members would tell you to get rid of it and if you still want an S-type, purchase a 2003 or newer one in good operating condition.
Good luck.

We had the same issue with the Audi A6 we had before our S-Type. The 2.4 engine blew and it was going to cost double what we paid for the car to replace, even with a second hand lump. The complexity of an engine swap just put the labour costs through the roof.
I wasn't that attached to the car but it was with a heavy heart that I watched an otherwise lovely car being taken off to the scrap yard.

Well folks I tried Craig's list to sell this car and have found it not as simple and painless as I hoped. I'm asking 1200 and stated it's for parts or a rebuild even though it currently runs and drives. I got on some robot email chain and a bunch of flakes contacting me. It seems to me that an S type owner with small wheels should buy this car for the rims and tires battery and any other parts that are known for going bad and have a whole parts car or take off what they need and then take the remains to the scrap yard. Maybe I'm just dreaming
