Bullshit. Tire rack configures the tires to BMW OEM tire pressure. Michelin has no way of influencing the test.

A comparison of tires on the same tire at the same BMW recommended tire pressure is as objective as it gets.

Anyone who thinks the P Zero is a better tire is either completely ignorant or an idiot.

Different tires operate at different pressures. The same pressures/camber settings don't provide the same performance across tires. If don't understand that, which you apparently do not.. then there is no sense continuing the discussion as you don't understand tires...

That doesn't invalidate C&D's test, but it doesn't tell the whole story either. I'm not trying to convince you that the P-Zero is a great tire. I honestly couldn't care what tire you get. But I am letting you know that these tests don't really show a tire's potential in the least.

Well if Pirelli designs their tires to operate best outside the auto OEMs recommended pressure and Michelin designs it to operate best at the OEMs recommended pressure then that is another reason the Michelin is better.

That may or may not be.. I have experienced many tires which under performance loads require different pressures to perform best. Using pressures from one tire suggestion doesn't provide optimal performance necessarily for another tire. Does that make it a bad tire? No. It's understanding tires. BMW and other manufacturers provide tire pressure suggestions based on the car base alignment, weight and OEM tire suggestion. Altering any of those make the OEM 'suggestion' just that, a suggestion. Tire dynamics are still a black art which is why professional racing teams invest so much money into understanding tire behavior with their cars.

Thanks for the reply but do you recall if the contis you had were the contiforce DOT track compound contiforce version or just the standard contisports?

I had an earlier version of those Yokos on my Lotus (I think AD07Rs), and they were spectacular in autocross competitions. We also measured tire temps and messed with pressures before and after every run. It is a bit of a black art.

The yoko's are a great DOT racing tire, but go right ahead and order the second set as soon as you've mounted the first. They are a racing compound and don't last more than a weekend on the track. (and just a few thousand miles on the street)

True, and almost worth it, but silly on a daily driver.

My buddy has a C7 stingray with z51 package and his dual compound Michelin PSS run flats lasted only 6k miles on the front two tires. Told him its a waste to use those tires for normal everyday driving but he insists on using them. They get super soft when warmed up.

The C07 comes with Michelin Pilot Sport Cups (PSCs) which have a softer compound than the Pilot Super Sports and are intended for track days. The wear rating on the PSS is a 300, where the rating on the PSC is only 180. The PSSs are much more suitable for daily driving.

They aren't a racing tire, they are a performance tire. They last fine on the street if you understand what you are purchasing (i.e. don't expect 30k miles from them). I ran the previous iteration the AD08's (non R) version on my old M3. The A048 is their DOT track tire.

Yes, thats the one I ran. It's been 7 years since I "retired" from autocross and my Lotus.

You are correct. I was thinking of the A048. The AD08R's still won't do much better than the Pilot Sport Cups relative to wear.
