Default R Dyanmic wtf

I walk into the dealership today to find an R Dynamic coupe in the showroom with the centre twin pipes. Wtf now we have 6 with an R designation? We start with an S 6 and 8 than the 8 moves to an R- this makes sense. Now a 6 with R insignia? I can’t keep up! Oh well there are worse things in life that don’t make sense but where’s the logic. Pedigree lineage Jaguar please..

So for the 2019 model year there is both a v6 R-Dynamic and a normal v8 F-Type R? Wait, apparently there is no longer an F-Type S in the 2019 lineup so it looks like some marketing genius decided to call the S ... an R-Dynamic instead? Is JLR a day early with their April Fools joke?

...and to confuse things even further.. it looks like the R model is being ... drum roll please....DISCONTINUED

Kindly refer to the thread, "Can Jaguar Handle Success." The mis-management of the F-Type is going to be a Harvard case study.

(p.s. wtf is not Jaguar speak. Be governed accordingly. )

Add to that seemingly they are retiring the F Type R as per the thread running on this board. I’m confused......

Given that only us owners can actually follow what the designations are anyway, it sounds like a good reason to debadge on the future models and just rely on the number of pipes.

JLR is doing an equivalent of buying a bunch of badges on eBay (M, Alpina, Brabus, AMG) and sticking them on the car.

There's a thread here from a couple of years ago - Jaguar decided to get rid of the S and R nomenclature. Who knows why? They've completely muddied the lineup with confusing and inconsistent naming.

As long as I can still get one new (or nearly so) with a V8 in it sometime next year then I will put up with whatever they decide to call it. I totally agree than R Dynamic being a V6 and R being a V8 makes no sense though. Doesn't R Dynamic sound more special than just R?

Agreed - A complete and utter FUBAR of the nomenclature

I would hurry up and get one before they kill off the lower priced R leaving the SVR as the only option if you want a V8

Shouldn't be a surprise, they've been on a killing spree of S's and R's for sometime. XF Supercharged and R models were hunted down awhile back. JLR determines they must somehow have lived out their usefulness and the slaughter is on.

Hopefully they won't all go away within the next year as I hope to be seriously looking by this time next year if all goes well. Mortgage is paid off this month, new garage to keep the toys in should be completed late spring or early summer and after that it will just be a matter of getting some seat time for test drives and having a down payment ready.

Yep, me too; none of it makes any sense. I'd suggest going back to looking behind the car to see how many exhaust pipes it has. Between exhaust and the hood (AWD or RWD) you know all you need to!

The number of exhaust tips isn't always a true guide. I have been almost fooled by several supposed XFRs that turned out to be diesels. There's a lot of quad pipe conversions going on, in the UK at least. Maybe more tricky on the Ftype though?

Jaguar is doing what Mercedes (AMG-Line), Audi (S-Line) and BMW (M-sport) have been doing for years. There is a market for people who want the look but not the taxes and purchase price of a true e.g. Audi S6 or BMW M5. Jaguar simply delivers, with quite some delay, what the public wants.

Personally, I don’t care for the “Dynamic” designation for any trim level. Reminds me of an Oldsmobile.

Yank all the badges off and call it a day.

That dates me.

True enough; if the number of pipes doesn't clue you in then the sound will.

Yeah that's the dead giveaway really. You can't fake an exhaust note outside the car (well, at least not yet. Who know's what they might do in the future with electric cars!) so one startup or acceleration and you will know.
