Default R-Type-Ceramic Brakes

H there,
New to these forums. OZXFR (topman) has given me some good pointers. I was looking at the thread from last year regarding pads. I have a 2015 R AWD 550bhp with ceramics;. Is there any update on a source for pads and if anyone has reverted to steel. Cheers

Wanna trade? I think the steel set up is not working out for me.

Thanks for the offer Benjamin but I am very happy with the ceramics I was just looking ahead re future cost. Motor has done 20k and by the sounds of it a lot of life left but thanks again.
Shaun

I believe you can find pads, and i have not found readily available replacement rings. I've contacted Girodisc if they would be interested in making Steel rings for the car, but they require 5 people to do it and it would be around $3500-4k usd.

Thanks for that it may be some time (or not) before pads/discs become readily available other than main dealer likewise before someone takes on the task of reverting to steel.

I'd honestly recommend you to keep the ccb, I really miss these when I switched from the Aston to the Supra and now the f type. They are louder but hey you get to use them for much much longer and harder.

Benjamin I am new to members forums and the amazing knowledge that members have of their motors. When I first got the F type I was a bit concerned about the CC,s cost to replace. But on reading up about CC both in the states and back here in the UK I have now come to really like them ( if I have to replace for whatever reason to hell with it cross that bridge as and when and by the sounds of it I may not be around). Apart from being great brakes and look cracking on the car I have to relay that 2 weeks ago pulled up outside a shop when a group of lads working in a garage opposite ran out and started to take photos of the brakes and then the car. Made me smile, they were asking all the questions and it appeared to have made their day. Yes going to keep the CC's.

as a person who ticked the ceramic option, as i do on all my cars, why anyone would want to swap them out for steels seems weird

the discs themselves are the big ticket cost item, and they should last the lifetime of your ownership unless you do something foolish like chip them by banging inner lip against disc removing the wheel - it happens a lot

re pads, i haven't ever found them that expensive, or expensive enough to even consider ripping out oe ceramics for some bootleg aftermarket steel setup

here are the part numbers - i use scuderia in UK for sourcing ccb pads

front
T2R11420

rear
T2R11424

I didn't check the $12K upgrade for ceramic brakes on my R, & settled on the standard included factory brakes which works fine for me.
Can someone give a simple summary of the advantages of ceramics over standard, esp for the $12K cost? I would assume better performance, less brake dust, etc... but for $12K?
Also what's the approx mileage we'll get before replacement are needed, & cost of replacement for reg vs upgrading to ceramics...?
Thanks,

That's crazy! Question though, why would you need new discs?

Thanks,
They’re beautiful. The calipers REALLY pop, and the beautiful shine of the silicon carbide Carbon fiber composite is really something to behold. As you get closer in, the details are even more impressive. You can see the layers of the composite flowing as they form the cooling vanes, almost like fluid flowing down a river. The looks really are something else, and personally, on a car so beautiful, they’re an important piece to round out the car. Other than that, they bite like nothing else, and keep biting all day long. I do find myself looking at them quite often. It’s more about how they make me feel than what they do, at least for me.

Yes come to really like them. As for looking at prices always nice to know what to expect if it hits the fan for whatever reason.

not optioning the ceramics would be an easier decision if the standard slider calipers on the steel brakes looked half decent

jag's ccb application on f-type is quite well done, not many manufacturers other than the higher end lambo and ferrari use a proper 4 pot caliper in rear, most like merc and audi either leave steels in the rear or use their standard single piston slider caliper like on the amg gt

There is a post on the jaguar UK forum where a fella with CC's has went to garage and has been told all pads need replacing. His is a 2014 F type with 62K miles regularly used. The reason given is that they have corroded simply due to the time they have been on the motor !! they quoted £3k.. There is around 8mm left on the pads approx 40% and motor running sound (no mention of any problems).. I am no expert as you can see from previous posts. I would be inclined to tell them to **** off, would I be wrong ?
By the way there is on Ebay UK a full set of Jaguar ceramics rotors/calipers/pads in box for £5500.

62k miles on the original set of pads? That’s very very good to know!

did they charge him to replace the Johnson rod and blinker fluid too

i have many 10 year + old supercars with first gen ceramics and original pads and they’re fine, pads don’t deteriorate with age

gotta appreciate the hustle though
