Default Rear Camera Cable

I recently purchased an F Type R. I noticed that the backup camera was not working so I took it to my dealer. They said whoever changed the battery accidently cut the camera cable. The dealer says they have to replace the entire harness from the trunk to the dash and labor alone is $4750. Seems like I should be able to just find the cut wire and splice it. Anyone have any opinions on whether that should work?

I suspect your right but dealer proably not allowed to do that. My experience with a faulty door handle sensor suggests Jag sells only full assemblies. Decent foriegn shop can probably find and fix.

+1. Also, great user name. Are you a latex salesman or an architect?

My guess would be importer/exporter.

They recommend the harness cause its a coax type cable and isnt just repair and work. Its also a one piece cable which makes it the whole harness. Never had luck trying to repair coax type cable either.

Not even with a plug and socket?

You are correct. I got the car back today and sure enough, someone pinch the cable with the battery tie-down and snapped it. I snipped off a piece of the cable and it's coax or fiber-optic. Either way, not looking good as far as an easy fix.

Definitely worth seeing if plug could solve problem. Maybe a cable guy?

If it’s a fiber optic cable, a splice or connector will not suffice. It will require a powered junction box. Your local Verizon Fios technician could probably get you sorted for a lot less than $5k.
