Default Removing coolant with pump before replacing pipes?

Hi gang, I’ve ordered the metal coolant pipe replacement kit from Euro Amp and even though the process is well-documented, I had a couple questions. First, instead of pulling the cover off the bottom and draining the coolant, would it be fine to just pump it out of the reservoir? If so, could I add the same coolant back in one I’m done? I have the tools and kit, but anything else I’d need to order before tackling it?

You'll lose more than what you can evacuate from the remote.

Unless you drain, prepare for mega mess.

That makes sense, this will be a new (to me) car, so I don't know what brand coolant is in it now. Would I be ok to match the color (probably pink?) with something like PEAK European Vehicles Pink? Or would it juat be best to flush the whole thing and start with new?

Colors don't matter. It's the spec to look at. Match that per the manual and all is good. I expect it's just dexcool or equivalent

Orange aka Dexcool. 50/50 +/- 10%

Why overthink this - just use new coolant....there are additives in it that help keep things healthy (radiator, etc.). It is not that expensive. As noted above, just keep the spec correct per the manual. The car's coolant system will thank you.

Now if the stuff is a week old, I get it...but the mess is not worth it.

I am just one of those types who don't worry about fluids...if it comes out of the car, save gasoline, it doesn't go back in. My philosophy/opinion (spoiling the car is ok).

Agree with this, if the coolant has been in there for a while I'd change it out for new, even if it's not quite due.

I totally get that, I wasn't against using new coolant, but more not having to deal with jacking up the car, taking off the bottom plastic, and draining it that way. If I can just use a pump from the reservoir without a mess, that would be great. But it's sounding like that doesn't get enough out before removing the supercharger.

I was only thinking of putting the coolant back that I'd removed because I don't know what kind is in there currently and didn't want to risk mixing 2 kinds (even though I'd be putting in the spec Jag calls for). But it sounds like that doesn't matter too.

I keep a bottle of Valvoline "all types pre mixed" coolant in my garage for emergencies across all my cars. I have nothing to do with this brand....have topped off land rover's and 911's (and a VW R32 and a volvo wagon) over the years. No issues.

Just saying....

Fyi, even draining from the drain plug below; there will still be a lot of fluid in there. The biggest mess will be in the bottom of the V near the lower Y pipe connection. Also FYI, close off the pipes left and right of the supercharger cooler. (I zip tied a rubber glove to each) If you open either door, and give the car power, there will be a burp of coolant spew over the engine! Or, remove the negative wire from the battery.....

do not drain fluid from the radiator just suck some out the expansion tank ,what ever spills just clean up ,YOU DO NOT WANT TO INTRODUCE ANY AIR INTO THE SYSTEM , Just watch my videos how to do it, and everything should be fine, burp it with the heater on till the thermostat opens bubbles are out

Hey Dennis, actually your videos (and others) have been a huge inspiration to me! Thank you (and Babs of course) for making them. Only a couple of the cooling pipe videos I’ve watched so far have mentioned removing the bottom cover and draining out the coolant first. I saw you pumping yours out of the reservoir and was thinking that was all I needed to do initially. I’m glad that’s true. I’m hoping to do my pipes, water pump, thermostat, and SC coupler soon.
