In replacing the rear pads on my 2014 V8s, with the high performance brake option, red calipers, I found that on both sides the upper pin (photo atached) was seized. I don’t think the slide pins have ever been serviced because when I was able to get the pins out the lubricant was pretty crusty and dry. The pins with the rubber sleeve on the inner-most end (i.e. not the protective outer boot) will no longer go into the bore, and I’m guessing it’s due to swelling or otherwise deteriorated rubber component. When I remove the rubber sleeve, the pin goes in an out with no issue and the bores look good as new.
Would anyone know if the sleeve really necessary if so, for what purpose? If so, are replacements available? The caliper mounting brackets are read, with TRW ‘D4’ cast into them.
I would also wonder if the sleeve has been affected by the use of improper lubricant at some point. I typically use silicone brake grease - does none know if that’s an issue?
thanks
steve

The sleeve is needed indeed. It give sliding and support surface to keep caliber/pads on line with the disk.
Note: do not add so much grease that it fullfills the groove on sleeve. The groove is an air passage needed for pin movement.
I have used very light sip of high temp vaseline on caliber pins.
Yes that would be ideal. Would anyone happen to know the TRW part number for the bracket or for the kit? The only think I have to go on is the ‘D4’ mark in the casting. I cannot find a reliable reference to that on the Internet anywhere…
Yes I thought so - they seldom provide parts that are truly superfluous. Odd that the other pin on each side does not use the rubber sleeve - it is straight metal…..
Yes I saw that too when I did my brakes. Apparently the rubber helps reduce NVH but why only installed on one pin and not both? It's suppose to go in one certain position too. Now I will admit I messed this up at first and went back in to move the pins around when I found that out. Never noticed any change in braking or noise regardless of which spot the rubber bushing was in.

What i found: Autofren Seinsa brand seems to have suitable service kit for F-type V8 rear caliber (TRW), where sleeve is included.
Same kit is suitable for other vehicles as well, like Audi Q3. (since JLR did wisely used ready available OEM parts instead of made own)
OE numbers: 8U0615404B and 8U0615403B but note: When searching with OEM number not all kits seems to have sleeve included.
