Default Replacement wheel bolts.

During my new tire installation today I was told one of the wheel bolts is damaged. I also noted significant corrosion on these poorly designed bolts. Has anyone replaced theirs? What size are our bolts? I know Gorilla and Mcgard are respected brands. I searched and couldn't find much. Any help is appreciated.

I always use a zinc based no-sieze compound on the threads, so I never see any oxidation on the threads. Have not noticed any corrosion on the exterior. Since the wheel locks are McGard, there's no reason you can't use their non-locking nuts as well.

My wheel locks are a Jaguar product with a letter stamped in the key(guess there are only 26). I searched for McGuardbut they didn't show a fitment for F-Types.

The Jag set is made by McGard. There was a McGard registration card in my Jaguar branded lock set.

Here are the McGard products available for the F-Type:https://shop.mcgard.com/catalogsearc...ategory_id=All

I also own a 1990s MG. It uses the same lug nuts.

Then, there are the striker plates for the doors, which match those on my neighbour's Triumph historic rally car...

Sorry these are lug nuts not bolts, I'm a previous M3 owner. I don't think mine are McGard. The lug nut got stuck in the socket and had to be punched out. As you can see these lug nuts have some sort of cheap chrome cover.

I believe that lugnut in the blue background pic is acorn-style - on a stock/eom Jag wheel? Aren't the Jag OEM wheels lugs flat w/washer, not angled/acorn?

Ahh - looked again - it does look like your nut is making flush contact with a washer. The McGard's look more like Ball end nuts.

I believe the ones on my car are mag seat. Gorilla has these and the cheapest set I can find are on ebay for $93. I'm going to try the cheaper Toyota/Lexus set. In case you want the gorilla heres the ebay link.

Yes, and if someone wants a black lugnut - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ROTVYP0...XINHTS1EJ&th=1

Fits F-type even though it says it doesn't; but requires 21mm socket

That is indeed a Mag seat nut, but has a generous taper to make it easier to enter the hole (hmm...where have we seen that concept before?)

The Jag wheel locks are sourced from McGard. The other nuts were probably low bid sourced.

Here's a close up of a corroded lug nut I removed a few weeks ago from my car. I have decided to buy the black ones listed on this thread...

Man that looks nasty. For black ones, there are cheaper ones on Ebay that are no-name generic one for $25, but yes those DP Accessories branded ones on Amazon are high quality (a member here swears by them). For a $20 premium can't go wrong. It would be nice if they were 19mm, but as long as you get a 21mm wrench they are a great choice.

This could replace the crappy EOM one for the road - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...A2LD1G37AFXYHU

Nope. I bought the car from Chattanooga TN in July, so perhaps over the winter it did get exposed to some salt. Will have dealer remove all lug nuts, check bolt threads and apply some nice 'cream' and then fit new black lug nuts.

Default My lock nuts

They are hardly distinguishable from the IEM lug nuts.

Out with the old in with the new. I would highly recommend those of you who drive on salted roads to change this **** poor design out.

The design is fine - the problem is down to materials.

Do those new ones come with a slip-ring as on the originals, or are they one piece?

is it possible that this is galvanic corrosion and not from salt? I'm no metallurgist, but I know that such things can happen with different types of metal are in contact.

Galvanic corrosion (the preferential corrosion of one metal over another that are in contact) can only occur in the presence of an electrolyte (e.g., salt or some other agent).
