Default Replacing license plate lights

Hey all, any tips for getting the plate light units out? I couldn’t do it - and cracked the cover of one. Does the whole black piece come out?

I have two new LED light units from China, as JLR stopped making them. Want to install!

Appreciate the help.

They are held in place by a spring clip located on the right end of the lamp assembly. I'm not home, so can't take any pictures right now.

Yes there is a spring clip, but you can't remove the light without removing the 3 or 4 the T25 TORX hidden under square plastic covers to remove the whole set-up including the trunk release button. Once you remove the T25, you can remove the lights depressing the spring and pushing them toward the "ground".

Any tips to removing those covers and the unit, or is it pretty simple?

It's really easy, just use a small screw driver to remove the square covers, there is a tab on one side and then one on the opposite side, then just remove the TORX screws and it comes off.
