Default Reset oil service indicator

Have always had the oil changes done at 5,000 mile intervals. This last time, I did the oil change myself. The oil service light has never had a chance to come on. The oil change prior to this one I did was about 14 months ago, no service light came on... is it mileage based? Do I need to do a reset or is a reset only done when the oil service interval light comes on? I have the instructions to do it if that's the case.

Hey Valerie - It's time and/or mileage sensitive - whichever hits first. Just do the reset and you're good to go.

OK, but it was 14 months since the last one, though only 4,000 miles. I would think 12 months would have set it off. It's not like I need the reminder, could it have been disabled??

Huh. Mine typically comes on after around 12 months.

The reset procedure says that the display confirms the reset, but mine never does. Sometimes I reset it more than once to be sure.

On my car the service light came on due to it has been 12 months since the last service. I only put 5,000 miles on the car, The service reminder is a brief message that shows up in the center dash when the car is first started. The message goes by very quickly, you may have missed it, I know I have.
Not to high jack your thread Valerie, But I reset my service reminder yesterday after doing the oil change which did clear the service reminder, but it did not change the last service mileage under vehicle information, Do I need a scan tool to change the mileage?

Nah, no worries, it's related and I learned that I didn't know that info existed under that menu. I'll look at it before I do the reset and then see if it changes. It's possible I missed the message, but I usually watch the tach closely, until the engine finishes its runup. My 2013 golf does give me the oil reminder, I imagine the Fs is similar.

I have only put about 2000 miles on my F Type since the last oil change which was in May of 2023. Interestingly enough, I am seeing a "Service Due Soon" notification on the Jaguar Remote app on my phone under the Status category. I don't see anything on the dash gauges when I start the car. I'll be taking the car in to the dealership next month for the free scheduled maintenance. I assume that they reset the maintenance reminder when they perform the service, but I should check the menu myself beforehand to see what it currently shows. Maybe the app is keeping track differently than the car does and is not receiving data from the car's computer ?

I book my car in for its annual service/MOT a month in advance (my indie gets busy and I like to get the appointment I want!) and the service warning usually pops up a week after I make the booking.

I thought the app gets its information from the car - doesn't keep track by itself.

Valerie - remind me what year your F Type is. On my 2017 it fails to give me the service notification on the dash. Interestingly I do get it in the app at around one year. So the car is triggering it but not displaying it. And the app is showing it triggered by the car

Dealer has never been able to explain why. Has been like that the last 4 years!

Mine's a 2017, too. I wonder if it ever worked. I got it in 2020, with 24000 miles. There was only one recorded ( car fax) oil change, not done by dealer, but one of the chain shops. Within the first week, I had it in to my dealer who changed the oil. Then oil changes done about every 5K miles. This last change is the longest time wise, between changes (14 months), but only 4K miles. Watched dash at a year to see if message would show up. Did the oil change myself, and followed reset procedure, but have no idea if it took.
Possibly some module isn't enabled?? The LED strip lights in grab handle and those in door didn't illuminate either, when I got the car. Tech did a deep dive and got those working. Also the manual switch for the rear spoiler didn't work either. All fixed. I can live without the messaging, just hoping some other really important message or warning feature isn't caput.
Is the app that In Control ?? I've tried to get that, but the site doesn't like my VIN.
