Not necessary except for track days but the carbon ceramics sure do look better.
One reviewer said the standard "Super Performance Braking System" on the F Type Coupe R were fine for about 3 laps but then started to fade whereas the Carbon Ceramics didn't fade after many laps.
The Carbons Ceramics will give less brake dust and last longer but when they need to be replaced they will be A LOT more expensive.
When you get the Carbon Ceramics as a $12000 option you also get the "Storm" wheels which also give the car a slightly wider stance.
Aesthetically, I think those massive drilled rotors and the Brembo styled calipers make the car look more exotic and bring a lot more attention to the car. I have the Alcon optional brakes with the larger rotors and Brembo styled calipers on my XKR and when people get close or pull up beside me they just keep looking at the wheels.

I personally think the brakes on my V8S look fantastic and perform very well. I have the red calipers which really helps the look in my opinion - they really stand out with my BRG paint and the 20" Cyclone wheels. The rotors and calipers are insanely big. According to many of the reviews, the rotors on the V8s are the biggest ever fitted to a production Jag and I can well believe it. I know some bemoan the F Type weight, but it weighs less than pretty much any other Jag so those big brakes aren't just out of necessity.
