Default SDD / CCF and other general electronic fiddling

Hi all,

I’ve been kind of skirting around this issue for a while now, since just before I bought my beloved F Type. For lots of the projects and modifications I’ve been interested in doing it would have been useful or essential to understand the CCF data and be able to use the SDD software. On my variety of previously owned BMWs there was a similar mechanism, the software had been leaked onto the internet and it all functioned fine with a generic ODB to USB cable (or the ELM one if you felt the need to complicate with Bluetooth) plus a German translation method. This gave me all sorts of options to adjust these cars default settings, add options that were otherwise build time only etc.

i believe that the same is true for at least my era of F Type (my14) but the info out there seems so much harder to find. From reading various forum responses there are a fair number of active users in here that at least have some access and knowledge of this stuff but it seems that nobody wishes to talk about it, so I thought I’d try this: if anyone is willing to provide any help at all in getting started could they please PM me?

- I’m aware of the dubious legality around this stuff so I’d never cause problems by saying who helped in public posts
- I know there’s risks involved so I’d only toy with my own car and understand completely that all screwups are my own problem regardless of what anyone suggests I do
- I’m a lifelong low level software engineer who has also helped configure and modify engine management systems. I also have a working understanding of CANBUS, and a bunch of friends who run a marine centric CANBUS custom hardware business
- I have a couple of projects in mind that I think lots of people on here might like to have if I can make them
work

In other words I’d love try and do my part of helping to improve these beautiful cars and I’d be eternally grateful to anyone who can get me past this initial stage.

Worth a try anyway! 👌

JLR SDD (symptom driven diagnostic)
Software is available free to download from JLR

JLR SDD Latest version download

This will run on Windows 7 32 bit, or on windows 7 64 bit.

Stay well clear of virtual machines with Windows XP (used with much earlier version of SDD)

Also wouldn't personally use Windows 10.

Laptop needs to be plugged into mains power for longer SDD sessions.
SDD will notify you if laptop battery is at low state of charge or car battery is low voltage

To use it you need either a paid Topix subscription
Or take your chances (your risk) with widely available "crack"

Then you need an VCI
Vehicle connection interface.

This is the official mark one version

https://www.hickleys.com/diagnostics/jlr.php

This will work with Jaguar models up to and including MY 16.

JLR VCI doip is newer version , will work on multi can models such as F Type MY14 to MY16 inclusive
This interface also works on MY17 onwards but needs JLR Pathfinder software (availability as SDD)

For diagnostic use you may get away without a power supply but

For programming modules and CCF update you need a regulated power supply capable of 14.4V at 55 Amps with very low ripple.

There are other interfaces that are available, much less expensive, including a vast selection of Chinese clones, some may work,
Some may not, like the crack this is use at your own risk

My advice based on experience of using clone VCI (and not heeding advice of others on this forum on this matter) is not to flash critical modules such as ECU, TCU.

If you flash audio amplifier and lose audio as I did you still get to drive your car, just without audio, phone, navigation!

Hi,

this is a cheaper option than the OEM VCI option and safer to use than a clone. DA-Dongle J2534 VCI (Jaguar Land Rover Approved J2534 Pass-Thru Interface) – Diagnostic Associates Ltd

Hi All,
I encountered the following issue:
I am using a Mongoose cable and connected to the using JRL SDD and I am able to clear the DTC and Diagnose.
I got the passcode to enter the engineering mode. I can see the orange bar at the bottom. When I try to run a function to enable to the Aux-Input of the X150,
I stuck at the following screen. I wonder what could be the issue here? I was using v158 with all the update.
Also since I am able to clear DTC, does it tell the Mongoose cable is fully functioning? Is a different cable needed for editing CCF?

Thanks
