Silly exhaust question

Besides the wonderful noise, do you think that an open active exhaust increases power or fuel economy?

Considering that on over run it is the raw fuel that creates the pops and crackles, it has to lower fuel econony... but who really cares? I sounds awesome!

Well the V8's must do it 10 times more than the V6's because every R car I've seen has impossibly black sooty exhaust and I'm not seeing those on the V6's...

You must not be revving it high and often enough! Mine are very sooty at the end of a week.
