Default Sim Card Slot?

All, Sorry for this... I did search and checked the internet and just cannot find what I am looking for. I have a MY2017 R and I cannot find the SIM card Slot. Its supposed to be in the center console correct? I do not see anything about connectivity in any menu. I got the car a few weeks ago and I am just digging in. I fear I am missing some option?? I bought the car assuming for $124K it would have all the requirements.
In the end all I really need it live traffic on the nav screen. Red Yellow Green on roads.
Any direction would be quite helpful.

Bill

I don't think the US models have the SIM card "exposed" in the center console cubby. We seem to have a "telematics" module which is between the seats behind the rear panel cover and I think that is where the SIM card is located. I had some issue with the Jaguar Remote app data stream and Jaguar USA originally had me looking for the SIM card but my dealer hinted it was in the telematics module when they did a software update.

YMMV

Thanks all... So what am I missing. When researching the car I did not find anything as an option to get this with the car. All I saw was some body options and heated windshield / Seats etc. I have all of that as well. Please anyone chime in... My car is an early MY17. Very disappointed.

Thank you very much!!

So the dealer is telling me no live capability on the MY17. If I hear correctly seems everyone has a card but a MY17? I guess I have that radio TMS system where the person just keeps yelling at me and repeating herself over an over... That what I am suck with? Sitting on I 95 in Delaware at 11PM at night because a truck had an accident and its backed up for 10 miles is not ideal to not see.
Sorry for the rant but I like to GT this car on trips. Important feature for me. Seems like that Sygic app is my only good option.

Again thankful for any advise.

Bill

I find the traffic info is so poor on my '14 Nav system, I seldom pay attention to it.

I have InControl Pro in my '18 XE - that uses a 4G connection for traffic, and is actually useful. But I'm paying $20/mo for the privilege.

I don't have a visible SIM card in my '16 but clearly the car has some communication skills because of the Jaguar Remote app and the SOS and Assistance buttons - hence my speculation that it was in the Telematics module.

As you say, you do have some traffic awareness through radio updates. I think the consensus of most folks here is that they use Waze or somesuch for smart navigation, which agreed would be nice to have in the InControl Apps portion but then again, I don't think Waze is available for Apple CarPlay head units either, so it's not exclusively a Jaguar moan...

I’m not impressed with the traffic display on my MY18, unless I’m missing a checkbox option somewhere, I get a list of (mostly useless) traffic events, but not the red/green lines on route like Apple/google/Waze/etc.
when my trial data allotment ends I probably won’t subscribe. I find the built in nav useful for keeping an eye on what’s coming up when driving unfamiliar roads, and longer trips with waypoints. But for a short trip to an address I don’t know, it is much quicker to plug into Apple maps (or google or Waze) on my phone, and get audio guidance via Bluetooth.

i agree for the price it should be much more - does anyone at Jaguar/Land Rover even know what Apple CarPlay is? :-)

it is definitely (for me) a first world problem that I have learned to suffer through.

YMMV

Just install a phone mount and run Waze.

Do you have AT&T? I use a T-Mobile SIM in my Range Rover and it’s $10 pm for 2gb, it boots up almost immediately at 4G and is plug and play. Simply insert the SIM and voila!

Yes, I broke down and subscribed to AT&T after my initial trial ended. I read a bit about folks using other carriers, but read about a lot of possible issues in putting a new SIM in. No issue for some, big problems for others.
