SimCard Issue
I didn't notice this for over a week, so it isn't that important but more of a puzzle I'd like to solve. When I finally looked into using the navigation it said it was offline and all the proper buttons are checked for it to be connected to the free mobile data with ATT. I went into the connectivity section and it says 'reading SimCard' transiently and shows ATT under Mobile Settings, but then shows the icon for no service and goes back to reading simcard. ATT points fingers at the dealer, and the dealer while trying doesn't seem to be getting anywhere. They're sending me a new simcard. Any thoughts? I was going to buy some random independent simcard to see if it's just an issue with Jaguar/ATT, if that doesn't work I'm not even sure it's worth having them work on a broken simcard reader.
mine does same thing (just got car the other day) - att says dealer needs to replace sim card. once car is finished getting XPel in next few weeks ill take it in.
Interested to know if that ends up working for you.

And as far as I know they are used only for the SatNav.
I believe the car still has a GPS receiver, the Navigation seems to work. It all started because I noticed an icon in the screen's upper right corner when I investigated it was a 'no service' icon with the mobile data. When I go into Navigation it says I'm offline, but it still works. That's what led me to find out the simcard doesn't seem to be working. I think the SimCard can update your navigation/traffic info and/or create a mobile WiFi spot.
I called the Jaguar customer service center a couple weeks after I took delivery and they walked me through registering and activating the AT&T connectivity feature. Haven't used it for much yet but did give the satellite GPS feature a try this week and it's kind of cool, although I can't think of why I would use it regularly.

With InControl Touch Pro on the XE, it gets traffic info off the Internet via a 4G connection - thus, the sim card. I imagine it's the same on the F-type. Not sure what I'll do when my free 3 months of data expires - will probably find something cheaper than ATT, as I don't expect to ever use the 4G hotspot in the XE.
I'm unclear how map updates will work with ICTP.

@DJS.
If you use the WiFi in the XE and link it to your phone, acting as a hotspot, you can still get traffic info without an extra simcard. You do need to leave the
simcard in, otherwise you can't activate the WiFi I suspect...

He has now posted a video on fb. It seems that the dealer has replaced the Jaguar map with google maps. On the touch screen he just touches the map option, bottom right, and google maps appear.
It’s a closed group but here’s the link to try

He's just posted that he can also choose the Jag map. No idea how this was done but it seems to be connected to the fact that he has a SIM card slot under the armrest.

to avoid nasty [costly] surprises at the end ot the month..
I can’t help with this discussion but I will say the SIM card in the Disco Is in a horrible spot. I couldn’t get NAV to work and then discovered I had bumped the SIM card putting something in the console. Kind of a dumb spot.

SIM card is required for the vehicle to communicate using cellular network telematics module that is ATT specific. You can't just pop another SIM in there and in fact the SIM needs to be programmed to the VIN of your vehicle through JLR. Yes, defective SIMS have occurred and the vehicle will not be able to communicate without one. If you don't subscribe to the InControl features after your trial period the vehicle will still use the SIM and telematics module for emergency communications and other vehicle specific functions including SOTA updates coming on the new I-Pace and rolling out to other models over time.
