When I had a bad TCU, the car would not start. JLR replaced it under the CPO warranty.

Car starts and drives. Been great the whole time. Key is seen. No issue save with the remote app.

Replaced the battery in the TCU. Car AGM is fully charged.

No DTC's in the code check by the mechanic (indy).

TCU can be seen.

No loose wires to the TCU (checked).

I hate to go to the dealer for a software check...their diagnostic fee is 301 dollars.

Am I missing anything?

An antenna going bad seems like a stretch....it is a 2016 and JLR said 2016's are supported now with the remote app (implied works with 4g but who knows???).

3g issue OR antenna is where my brain is...and I hate to spend 300 on a diagnostic to be told the car is 3g and cannot work with things any longer.....service manager and I spoke...he may be able to convince the mechanic to "goodwill it" a little...I'd pay 50 or 100 but 300....

Anyone with a 2016 lose their in-control service recently - Jaguar cannot tell me if the 2g service has been lost even though reports are that T-mobile (US centric post, sorry) is doing just that.

Or, do the 16's have 4g from the factory (JLR main support person did not have an answer to this oddly).

Thanks!

This was posted on an F-Pace forum a number of years ago. JLR made a server-side change which enabled our MY2017 and earlier vehicles to function on 2G networks once AT&T decommissioned 3G back in 2022. That worked fine until this year when T-Mobile began decommissioning the last remaining 2G networks. There is no upgrade path -- we're SOL unless you happen to be in one of the few remaining pockets of 2G but they're all supposed to be gone by late summer / early fall.

Thanks.

I am going to just call this the end of the cellular for my car - 3g then 2g then nil. The sad thing is they likely "have" TCU's that are 4g that with a patch would work just fine today...I suppose this goes to their lack of resources and seemingly desire to jettison the past for a future of cars that are all electric (wait, don't ipads go out of date....?). Should be interesting to watch how this unfolds.
It is frustrating that when I asked the JLR central person AND the dealership tech person, both were unwilling to even discuss the end of 2g at all...both acted as if nothing was afoot, etc. Makes one wonder.

Well, I'm just glad you can still drive the car without an error code. If no cellular contact with the JLR servers resulted in the car being disabled this would be a dire situation. Can you get a refund from InControl?

Luckily I had just renewed InControl (they give you 2 weeks. My prior year had not even expired yet, so they were ok....in theory if you were a month or three into things, their policy is not to refund although if 2G died I suspect an argument could be made with them - the person on the phone was very nice. She did however state that no one else had called into asking about 2g and such, and that sounds just odd to me unless I am the only person with 3G in his/her car still willing to pay for incontrol remote...

Means SOS/roadside and lojack are no longer functional - a real shame. The box looks simple enough and I'd bet money the post 2021 F types are plug and go, so in theory an upgrade may be trivial...

If they cannot handle this well, how will EV life be with them.

But agree, car runs great - just no cellular services.
