OK can’t check for bt right now since I’m getting text messages not available message.......I hope this is not because I’ve installed IOS 12 !
However if you check on ownerinfo.jaguar.com and select the model and year ....only 16/17/18 seem to be available...you can see that for 16 and 17 text is available but it is not shown for 18.

edit.
As far as I can work out the system works on Bluetooth, no need to plug in. IOS 12 had reset some settings on my phone, now fixed.
Your car handbook will show if you have text or not.

Default iPhone X / Siri / Bluetooth

I connect my iPhone X to the Ftype via Bluetooth and get music and phone features. On my my16 v6s I used to be able to do both “hey Siri” and hold phone power button to engage Siri. With my my18 R I can’t get Siri to work with the car mic. Hey Siri does nothing, and holding power button displays Siri on phone, but when I speak it says “go ahead I’m listening”...

anyone with iPhone X have Siri working? On my18?

Hands free. In the increasingly oppressive UK it’s illegal to touch your phone with the engine running. Touching the nav screen is ok though....go figure as you say in The colonies.

How does the UK declare its independence from itself?

id like to call people (contacts)... hey Siri, call wife... scrolling through contacts with a menu is practically as dangerous and distracting as fishing coins from between the seat and console

Hi there, I´m the new one from Germany, so sorry for my poor writing.

I also had problems with the steering via iPhone. I bought my 03/18 and connectet it to my iPhone SE with iOS 12.x on it. Everything works: searching the artist, album, title. After an update to iOS 13.x i can´t choose tracks or search for something.
Connecting the iPhone 5s from my wife with iOS 12.x and everything works fine again.

It´s an issue of the bluetooth-operations from Apple.
Now I have 2 iPhones: my SE only for phone-action and an old 5S with only music on it. Both are working parallel, you can choose the actions (music and phone) seperately in the settings of the car.

Took 5 weeks to check it out ;-)

FWIW, I have a 2013 Ford truck with similar connection issues. If I connect to the phone via USB, then disconnect it, and reconnect, I have to tell the truck again to connect via USB, even though the display still shows it. The point is that these connectivity issues are not limited to just Jaguar!
