Default iphone5 bluetooth and dock

I could not find this particular situation in the forum, so here we go:

I have my iphone5 blue toothed to 2012XF.
When I plug it into the USB port, it starts playing music, just fine. And I have complete control of the music function via the touch screen.
But, within a few seconds, the sound stops. I think the iphone decides it would rather bluetooth stream the audio rather than play it through the USB.
I can bring a menu up on the iphone (see attached image) and you can see it gives me a connection choice, but I cannot get the dock selection to stick for more than a few seconds.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,

The only option I would suggest is maybe resetting your iPhone. What I mean by that is turning it off all the way and then turning it

After surfing around apple support communities, it looks like I am not the only one experiencing this type of problem. It relates to the 'bluetooth audio wireless streaming protocol', something called 'A2DP'. Apple apparently does not provide the capability to disable this (while keeping phone bluetooth active) and it also appears that given a choice of bluetooth versus USB port, the phone chooses bluetooth.
Some obscure suggestions were provided, I will try those and provide an update.
And if anyone else has a thought (or understands any of this computerese), would be interested.
Thanks,

I'm not 100% certain it's Apple's fault. I have exactly the same problem with my MY12 PL, and it's very frustrating. The phone is of course connected to the car for phone calls, but the music always reverts to bluetooth after less than 10 minutes, in spite of trying to use USB.

It gets worse: there have been times when I've wanted to use headphones, so as to allow passengers to sleep on long journeys. The only way I can use headphones is to turn off bluetooth on the phone.

I've been told that it's Jaguar's Bluetooth settings that are too aggressive, but I'd like to be proved wrong. Roll on iOS7 and we might have a solution (or not, if it's the car's fault).

Anyone tried the iPhone 5 adapter with the 3.5 mm jack and connect to the iPad adapter in the console?

Here is a review I found online that might be related: Bluetooth is a Bully - 2012 Jaguar XF Long-Term Road Test

The issue I described above occurs using an iphone 5 with adapter connected to one of the two USB ports in the storage bin between the driver and passenger seat.
