Default Steering wheel leather repair

Hello all,
I have not spotted any thread on this within the forum.
My steering wheel is worn here and there as the car has a few years now (V6S MY13). Steering wheel is flat-bottom, not heated.
I found so many DYI on the internet with such repair kits : https://amzn.eu/d/gF1EViM seen on Amazon
Has anyone already tried such treatment and has feedbacks?
thanks in advance !
Pierre-Emmanuel

It appears that the surface finish has worn away on the leather on your steering wheel. Here is a link to leather repair compounds. Research those to find one with 5 star reviews. Also be sure to read any 1 star reviews, as those may provide an important clue to use.

I will second Colourlock. I had a small hole in the seat and the ebony was a perfect match for my interior. Perhaps a "redye" would work for you...

thanks, yes that’s my expectation too but it seems there are minor differences when reading seatdoctor FAQ:

Can I use the dye on trim and/or my steering wheel?

We have far less data on contrast trim and steering wheels than we do on the leather seats. Many times we have a match. If the steering wheel is the same color as the seats, we can definitely make dye for it. Please make a note on the order because we formulate steering wheel dye slightly differently to improve adhesion and feel.

Default to dye or not

Yes, you 'can' use the dye on the worn spots, but dye will not reconstruct the smooth leather surface.. it will only color the substrate. If that's all you want to do.. try a Sharpie black permanent marker. I touched up the side of the seat back bolster of my 2017 that way. I don't slide in when entering my cars.. I face the door panel, sit down and then rotate my derriere while tucking my legs in. I've set the seat memory, so when I get out, I press the 'reverse' on the seat adjustment, that way, plenty of room when getting back in. Much less wear on the side edge of the seat back. An alternative to seat wear would be seat covers, but I've yet to find a seat cover for the F that doesn't entail taking the whole seat out to fit.

try a Sharpie black permanent marker.
Sharpies look purple after a short while.
If you are just looking to re-color, brush on a dab of black paint. Wipe quickly so that the color will only go into the crack.

Agree with Valerie that this will not smooth the surface.

On other cars I have fitted Wheelskins brand black leather covers with great success. They will throw in contrasting lace for no charge, just ask.

Whatever you do, don't try the HELLO KITTY type, LOL

I wouldn’t over think it.

Just use the dye . It’s just black. If the 2micron difference between the scuffed and non scuffed surface bothers you then the seam right next to it must seem like a crevasse and would annoy you 1000 fold more.

if any when it does wear off again you will have to redo it in 4-5 years time. Given that it took 10sec to apply and wipe off the excess from the un-roughed leather you have to factor in have to do it twice and double the amount of time .

Hello, finally used the steering wheel repair kit from furniture clinic (my earlier linked on amazon above) - slightly long but quite easy and this works like a charm, really rejuvenate the stuff. Beyond the aspect, this brought back a better grip as the leather was quite slippy before (which i couldn’t improve despite deep cleaning and conditioning since i own this car 2y ago).
My best wishes for the new year to all,
Pierre-Emmanuel
